- 1950 – Korean War: 3RAR successfully assault and hold crucial hill during the Battle of Pakchon
- 1971 – The last Australian Army units to leave South Vietnam are embarked on HMAS Sydney at Vung Tau.
- 1916 – World War I: The Third Battle of Gaza ends with an allied victory
- 1940 – Mines off Wilsons Promontory, Victoria, sink a British freighter.
- 1944 – World War II: G for George arrives at RAAF Base Amberley after completing 90 combat missions over occupied Europe
- 1914 – World War I: HMAS Sydney sinks the German cruiser SMS Emden, off the Cocos Islands
- 1948 – Royal Australian Army Medical Corps granted Royal Warrant
- 1964 – Australian Government introduces selective conscription of 20 year old males by ballot under the National Service Act
- 1918 – World War I: Allies sign armistice with Germany. Now commemorated as Remembrance Day
- 1941 – Opening of the Australian War Memorial
- 1943 – World War II: Last Japanese air raid on Darwin
- 1940 – World War II: HMAS Sydney in action at Strait of Otranto
- 1942 – World War II: Australian troops capture Wairopi, New Guinea, from Japanese during the Kokoda Track campaign
- 1965 – Vietnam War: Kevin Arthur Wheatley awarded VC at Tra Bong, Vietnam
- 1917 – World War I: the Anzac Mounted Division pursues Ottoman forces towards Jaffa, Israel
- 1974 – The naval base, HMAS Tarangau in Papua New Guinea is officially transferred to the Papua New Guinea Self Defence Force
- 1943 – World War II: Last major air battle over Papua New Guinea
- 1944 – World War II: the Australian government approves the deployment of Australian Women's Army Service members overseas
- 1917 – World War I: Allies capture Jaffa, Israel
- 1943 – World War II: Admiral Louis Mountbatten appointed Supreme Allied Commander, South East Asia
- 1943 – World War II: The 9th Division begins its attack on Sattelberg
- 1916 – World War I: Battle of the Somme ends; Australia suffered 23,000 casualties
- 1942 – World War II: the 16th Brigade captures Popondetta, New Guinea
- 1914 – World War I: Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force occupies Admiralty and Western Islands
- 1915 – World War I: Lieutenant General William Birdwood takes command of the Dardanelles Army
- 1941 – World War II: HMAS Sydney disappears off the Western Australian coast, all 645 men are lost
- 1942 – World War II: Australian troops forced to retire after capturing Gona, New Guinea
- 1970 – the 2nd Cavalry Regiment is established
- 1943 – World War II: Japanese launch a counter-attack against elements of the 9th Division during the Huon Peninsula campaign
- 1916 – World War I: the 3rd Division arrives in France
- 1944 – World War II: Australia assumes responsibility for Bougainville, New Guinea, from US forces
- 1901 – Second Boer War: Leslie Cecil Maygar is awarded the VC at Geelhoutboom, Natal
- 1944 – World War II: Australian troops relieve US forces at Cape Torokina, Bougainville
- 1948 – The Australian Regiment, now known as the Royal Australian Regiment, is formed
- 1943 – World War II: Thomas Currie Derrick is awarded the VC for his actions at Sattelberg, New Guinea
- 1965 – Vietnam War: 1RAR captures Duc Hanh village, Vietnam
- 1899 – Second Boer War: New South Wales Lancers in Battle of Graspan, South Africa
- 1951 – Korean War: 3RAR is involved in the Battle of Sunchon, Korea.
- 1942 – World War II: HMAS Adelaide sinks German blockade runner Ramus in the Indian Ocean.
- 1943 – World War II: the 2/43rd Battalion repulses strong Japanese attacks on Pabu Hill, New Guinea.
- 1939 – World War II: Inauguration of the Empire Air Training Scheme
- 1941 – World War II: HMAS Parramatta was sunk by German submarine U-559 near Tobruk.
- 1942 – World War II: Ron Middleton is awarded the VC after a raid on Turin, Italy
- 1950 – Korean War: The 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, secures the Taedong River ferry crossing, Korea.
- 1943 – World War II: during the Battle of Wareo, Australian forces concentrate around Horace's Ears before commencing the next stage of their advance
