imho üter is swiss in the german version of the simpsons just because you can't speak german with a german accent. he's absolutely not fitting to the stereotypes germans got about swiss. i think a bavarian accent would have matched much better. and: any (not so dumb) german does connect especially the lederhosen to the steroetypes about germans.

I for one think its weird that he should be Swiss. In that case, his father would work in a bank, and have higher wages per Swiss Francs for living abroad. Although the Swiss Franc was 70 US-Cents back then, the wages would be high. His father would enjoy greater spendingpower with local USD. Uter would wonder where to get chocolate from Switzerland, and not bung in his gob any chocolate he could smell. He would eat less chocolate brownies than all else in his school. As for being Swiss, he would see the concept of National Service as a real concern. it´s never actualy said that üter is swiss, but his accent just sounds swiss in the german version and the choco-eating is implied to be a swiss beheaveior (at least in germany...)

It should be added, that Üter (or Uter) is no common name in Germany or Switzerland. Maybe the show's writers mistook the name for "Günter" which is quite popular with middle-aged to old German men. Üter's iodine deficite would support the notion that he is from the mountains (i.e. the Alps). March 1st, user:prorokini

His Name[edit]

Although his name isn't in common usage in Germany, the name still exists if the character is called it, a name only does not exist when nobody in the world, fictional or non-fictionall is called it. Leonardo2505

German dub[edit]

From memory it seems that they pronounced him "Uter" and not "Üter" in the German dub, can anyone verify? (131.130.121.106 01:12, 5 August 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Yes, this is perfectly true, I've watched lots of German dubbed episodes. Üter is always pronounced "Uter", also in "Uterbraten" which also rhymes with "Puterbraten" (roast turkey). Chronology[edit]

It's perplexing as to why they make reference to the episode The PTA Disbands, which aired around 1996, in the episode Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner, which aired 1999. Uter, since the PTA episode had been seen several times, in examples cited in the article. The way the article is written, it makes it seem that GWCCD airs before the other episodes, like 22 Short Films About Springfield.
