I have added data comparing the 1997 CC results with the 1993 ones. However, I'm wondering whether such a comparison is either meaningful or valid. The creation of Swindon unitary means that the CC lost a third of the seats contested in 1993, including almost all of the safe Labour seats, making comparison in terms of Labour's vote share and number of seats near meaningless. In a similar vein the GE being held on the same day meant that nearly 80,000 more people voted despite over 30% of the '93 electorate no longer being in the council area.
