massacre?

[edit]

hamas calls it a massacre and suddenly we take that as a source? seems silly. its also an allegation. CViB (talk) 00:23, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Attack" and "strike" appear to be more commonly used by reliable sources. Not sure what you mean by "allegation" though. Nythar (💬-🍀) 00:28, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
no credible source describes it as a "massacre". only "source" one doing so is Hamas CViB (talk) 02:44, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here are uses of the word 'massacre'- not just when quoting the government of Gaza (Hamas political wing)- in English-language news from countries, intl. orgs, and accepted major media outlets I could find. This is just concerning its usage- ignoring the factual basis for the application of the word
this is a recent event, so more may come (and will try to update later)

@Mason7512 none of those are credible sources. none of them. those are pro-arab anti-israeli sources. 138.255.255.35 (talk) 21:54, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First, Al Jeezera is considered credible on Wikipedia (see WP:ALJAZEERA).
Second, the Governments and International Organization are not included because they are or are not credible, but to establish usage and international perception.
Third, what do you mean 'pro-arab'? they are all arab countries and arab outlets, yes. No entity is void of bias, and bias does not automatically exclude their inclusion/consideration on Wikipedia (see WP:BIASED and WP:ALLOWEDBIAS which, again, apply to sources, which is not what I am recommending the governments/orgs be) Mason7512 (talk) 22:17, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mason7512 glad the title was changed. those arab sources you posted are the same sources who celebrates oct 7 as a "victory for Palestinian people" 138.255.255.6 (talk) 17:48, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There was no reason beyond spite for this reply. Wikipedia is not a forum to discuss your opinions or settle grievances with other users, please do not abuse talk pages like this.
And again, these were not sources, aside from the Al Jazeera which is considered reliable on Wikipedia, they were just all the instances I could find at the time of governments using the word massacre. I never even took a position on supporting or not supporting the title, I was just gathering relevant content for this discussion to provide sufficient context of an opposing argument. It literally says there that Al Jazira is biased on this very topic... 213.57.168.191 (talk) 06:29, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
