PMD/Repeat of Yemyin

[edit]

We might see a repeat of Yemyin like naming controversy with this one, i.e. Depression ARB01. As Pakistan Meteorological Department has already moved ahead and declared it as a Deep Depression by 2200 local time (1700 UTC) today (7th June 2015), while IMD is still calling it a Depression. Infobox Small

[edit]

Regarding this edit, why shouldn't we include the current infobox? I know we haven't really done it much in the past, but think about logically for a change. Why not include it? YE Pacific Hurricane 00:23, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see why not, so long as someone is there to update it. Ping: Typhoon2013. Dustin (talk) 00:28, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like the infobox may not be currently suitable. Perhaps that is what should be changed. Dustin (talk) 00:29, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Yellow Evan: @Dustin V. S.: Someone told me before that we only put the infobox whenever it had intensified into a CS. Besides, no one really edits the Nio cyclone page nowadays. Typhoon2013 (talk) 00:56, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Also a user before had left me a message about infoboxes, stating why don't we use infoboxes in all cyclone basins? I did agree with him/her but I don't know where to leave that message so everyone can see it. It is also the SWio cyclone basin that need infoboxes as well so we need to do that in the 2015-16 season. Typhoon2013 (talk) 00:58, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter what somebody told you. It's IMO logical to include it. YE Pacific Hurricane 17:07, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with including in the past has been a lack of editors willing to update it outside the NHC AOR, especially considering that the IMD has been notoriously bad in the past with the issuance of bulletins.Jason Rees (talk) 19:49, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of "Other Storms" section

[edit]

I think it will be a good thing to start an "Other Storms" section starting from 2015 season, since IMD is now tracking Land Depressions but isn't designating them officially. Your thoughts? Rishabh Tatiraju (talk) 19:15, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We can wait for the report or best track data. -- Meow 12:15, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
IMO I don't think so because the Nio basin is the weakest basin for TCs. We can't just have an article which is really short, right? Typhoon2013 (talk) 03:28, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The idea of an other systems or storms section is a great one for the NIO when there are several weak depressions or deep depressions and virtually no impact around. I did something similar with the 1990 season, however, based on a quick look through this season the only candidate to go in would be ARB 3.Jason Rees (talk) 23:00, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I just published an article on Cyclonic Storm Komen, and I was going through the content in the section to make sure I didn't miss anything. In my research, I haven't found any conclusive links with Komen to the train derailment. I've seen some sources backing it up, but there was ongoing monsoonal floods throughout India when Komen struck the country's eastern portion. Komen dissipated on August 2 over Jharkhand, which is in the far east of India. Per here, there was a land depression over western India in late July, and many sources for Komen mentioned another depression over western India. I can't link them conclusively - it would be WP:OR - but I don't believe there is a strong enough link between Komen and the train derailment. A CNN story on the derailment note the ongoing floods throughout India as the cause of the crash.

Of course, this brings up a broader issue that I've known for quite some time. We need a specific article on 2015 Indian monsoon season/2015 South Asia monsoon season, which could cover these events, general floods, and the high number of deaths that happen every year due to the Monsoon of South Asia (which would be the main article). Now, given how interconnected the TC season is with the monsoon, perhaps it's worth discussing whether we should change the focus of the seasonal TC article to include the monsoon (2015 North Indian Ocean cyclone and monsoon season?) or whether to have two articles. But, in an ideal world, the monsoonal floods should get coverage, as they are worse annually than most TC's with articles. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:08, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have always wondered about having an article on the monsoon since it is a major player in the Indian economy. In fact the other week I started to use the IMD's Monsoon Summary and have a play with 2014 NIO. On a side note the Land Depression needs to be added into the article by someone.Jason Rees (talk) 21:23, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
