Rename

[edit]

Is this a legislative election or a general election? Given Czechia is a parliamentary democracy, I suggest the latter is a better title. 109.151.167.131 (talk) 14:54, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A general election is a term used when there is election of both executive and legislative branch, as well as for only the legislative one in some english speaking countries. It's not the norm elsewhere. --Aréat (talk) 15:08, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(e/c) 'general election' is a bit of an ambiguous term, as it can refer to both parliamentary elections and elections in which the president and parliament are elected on the same day. For parliamentary elections, I think 'general election' is best restricted to countries where it is clearly the common term for the election in question, or constitutional monarchies where there can be no confusion. However, I would be in favour of renaming the article 'parliamentary election', as I think 'parliamentary' is a clearer description than 'legislative'. "PirStan would amend the constitution"

[edit]

I'd love to resolve the [how] tag on this sentence but I'm not sure I get it (I'm not a native Czech speaker). The ref seems to say they would amend the constitution to give the speaker of the chamber of deputies priority over the President to decide whether to ask someone to form a government - is this an accurate description? – filelakeshoe (t / c) 🐱 01:26, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Filelakeshoe:, I think that quote refers to this sentence in the article: "Piráti a STAN slibují upravit Ústavu přehozením pokusů při sestavování vlády. „Prohozením druhé a třetího pokusu o sestavení vlády mezi prezidentem republiky a předsedou Sněmovny ulehčíme vzniku legitimní vlády s důvěrou Sněmovny,“ píše se v koaličním programu." In English:
"Pirates and STAN are promising to change the Constitution by switching the attempts to create the government. „By switching the second and the third attempt to create the government between the President of the Republic and the Chairman of the Parliament we will make easier the creation of the legitimate government trusted by Parliament,“ they wrote in their coalition program."
In short: Now the President of ČR can choose and authorize someone to create the government twice in a row. If both attempts fail, it is the Chairman of the Parliament who choses the prime-minister. They want to give the second attempt/choice to the Chairman (the first and third will be for President).
Such change in Czech Constitution was suggested by some law experts already in 2018, after the government of A.Babiš was ruling more than half of year without the trust of parliament. (Prohoďte druhý a třetí pokus jmenování premiéra, dostali radu politici, 2018). And already in 2013 a comparative analysis made for Czech Parliament stated in its conclusion, that it is very unusual for parliamentary systems in Europe to authorize president with more consecutive attepts to nominate the prime-minister without any clear time limitation or for government to rule without the trust of parliament. It is only in Czech Constitution and it should by changed. But nobody cared back then. (Způsoby jmenování vlády, 2013). --Honzula (talk) 12:43, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation, I think this would need a whole paragraph or subsection to provide enough context so I just removed the sentence for now. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 🐱 12:55, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily. Everything what I wrote before could be summarised in one sentence: "They also said they want to adjust the constitution in order to make the creation of the legitimate government trusted by Parliament easier then now." And there can be also a footnote with more detailed explanation. --Honzula (talk) 17:38, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cite error

[edit]

There is a cite error in the article because the refname Spolu posiluje, ale ANO neporazí, Piráti už vůbec, říkají autoři posledních průzkumů Aktuálně.cz has been defined twice. That's a very long refname.

Either the second reference should be given a new refname, or if the references are the same the second instance can be change to:
<ref name="Spolu posiluje, ale ANO neporazí, Piráti už vůbec, říkají autoři posledních průzkumů Aktuálně.cz"/>

party colors too similar (blue-black)

[edit]

The four winning parties/alliances all use rather similar colors (blue-black). Can't we use colors that are more differentiated form another? I prefer to give Pirates and Mayors (PaS) the green of Mayors and Independents (STAN) as it has 33 out of 37 seats in that alliance. ----Bancki (talk) 07:48, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
