sales figures

[edit]

Finally found some sales figures for 99 Ranch in a Los Angeles Times article, no thanks to you people.

Er, to answer the deleted question - journalistically that is not kosher. Fuzheado | Talk 15:12, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Also, it would be easier if you signed your posts or created a login. You've done lots of good work, it would be nice to be able to link you to a name or label, 172.xx.xx.xx. Fuzheado | Talk 15:18, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)
???
I haven't done any article. I just posted a concern since I came across both this Wikipedia article and online newspaper article while searching on Google for Chinese supermarkets.

Edmonds, Washington

[edit]

The 99 Ranch Market in Edmonds is on the old highway 99, which confuses many locals when they find them all over the west coast. :)

As a California native, i found this interesting as well -- there is an implied link in my mind to Highway 99, California's "market highway" along which so many vegetable truck farms are located. However, i do not think that the founder of the chain had this in mind. Or did he? cat Catherineyronwode 14:57, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Political NPOV

[edit]

SchmuckyTheCat modified the article unilaterally, and reverted Jiang's revert subsequently.

However please note the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese)#Political NPOV, which says " Although the United Nations and most sovereign states in the world have recognized the People's Republic of China as the sole government of China, Wikipedia reflects the neutral reality and considers the term "China" not to coincide with any particular sovereign state or government. In particular, the word "China" should not be used to be synonymously with areas under the current administration of the People's Republic of China or with Mainland China. ".

For the original version prior to the reverts, click here. — Instantnood 10:26, Mar 15, 2005 (UTC)

Fuzheado changed China into People's Republic of China.

Does 99 Ranch Market import from Hong Kong and Macao? — Instantnood 12:56, Mar 15, 2005 (UTC)

How do you know? — Instantnood 16:10, Mar 15, 2005 (UTC)
If you do not work there, probably you know it because Hong Kong products are marked "Product of Hong Kong" or "Made in Hong Kong" on the packets. Why isn't "Made in China" marked? — Instantnood 06:14, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

I believe that this issue has been resolved with the current wording of the article, but if anyone has further concerns, please do post them here. A supermarket chain article is not a seemly place to argue national politics. cat Catherineyronwode 15:00, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

99 Ranch's refund policy

[edit]

Interesting fact, but I found that 99 Ranch doesn't accept full refunds like Albertson's - only exchanges for other items. It's the whole chain's policy. — Stevey7788 (talk) 00:31, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Taiwanese dominated"

[edit]

"including Milpitas (where the supermarket is strategically located near the Taiwanese-dominated technology industries of the Silicon Valley)" The people of Taiwan don't dominate anything, much less the entire Silicon Valley. I used to live in Milpitas besides.

I agree with you and have removed the politically tendentious "Taiwanese-dominated" phrasing. Please see if you like what i replaced it with any better. cat Catherineyronwode 14:58, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

I was thinking if maybe the template on this page for the info on 99 ranch should be changed to something more consistent like the complany templates for Vons or Albertson's Jorobeq 04:50, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vietnamese

[edit]

Though I do not doubt that Vietnamese is a language well-represented among both customers and staff at 99 Ranch, is Siêu Thị 99 Ranch really what how you say it? I get two non-Wikipedia hits for "siêu thị 99 ranch", but many more for 99 Ranch Market, or simply 99 Ranch. Until I can talk to more Vietnamese folks and get a better idea of what it’s called (not the chữ nôm reading of 大華 among Chinese Vietnamese?), I think I’m going to remove the Vietnamese in the li’l infobox. —Wiki Wikardo 18:12, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fairly extensive revisions

[edit]

I have made fairly extensive revisions to the article, trying to bring it up to a basic level of consistency of visual appearance and NPOV. For the record, i shop at the Richmond store, which is often called Ranch 99 rather than 99 Ranch by non-Chinese locals. :-) cat Catherineyronwode 15:08, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prices

[edit]

Just got back from a run. I find their prices very competitive to Safeway, Lucky and Trader Joe's, all within walking distance. Often cheaper. Doolin (talk) 23:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

section "Asian American Impact"

[edit]

Such a section should be based on independent reliable sources - I have removed the unsourced essay-ish section from the company's own POV. Some of it was also off-topic but may be suitable in a broader article about Asian Americans (see edit history for deleted content). Either way, such observations and conclusions would need appropriate 3rd-party sources. GermanJoe (talk) 17:35, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
