Perspective of Article

Wireless

[edit]

I believe this article needs a rewrite to make it explain the purpose of ATM AAL2 first, and its relationship to UMTS secondarily. While ATM AAL2's use for wireless networks is extremely hot right now, this article omits this adaptation layer's history with regards to ATM. It also shows no relation to other adaptation layers, primarily AAL5 which was heavily used for a while. Specifically, there are a lot of details about use in the various Iu interfaces of UMTS. Organization

[edit]

I believe that the description of the fields with the ATM AAL2 header should be as close as possible to the figure. TelecomNut (talk) 16:11, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Errata

[edit]

The figure gives the impression that there is only 1 cell header for ATM AAL2. That is incorrect. AAL2 is an example of Segmentation And Reassembly (SAR) (something fairly unique in telecom to ATM at OSI Layer 2), and data packaged using AAL2 is spread over multiple 53 byte cells of 48 byte payload each.
