Hi Noina! I agree with MelodyYifan's comment below that this is a great topic and this page is definitely important to media representation. There is great content, although I have gone over and fixed some small grammatical errors. The only thing that I can see that would need improving is contributing more citations to the origins section; there is some information about Western presentation of Arabic media that could also be elaborated upon. Awesome start, can't wait to see the article as a finished product! Juliakkate (talk) 23:05, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Al Jazeera Effect is an awesome topic and a great way to discuss issues about journalism. You provided some good content on the topic and did a good job presenting the information in a clear way. I think you can do more to make the topic more exhaustive and comprehensive. The content in the write up is good but could dig a bit deeper into the impacts. For example, for the "origin and use" section, you can provide more information about the history of the organization, such as its achievements and strengths by comparing with other news authorities. For the "impact" section, it would be better if you can discuss different impacts in separate sections and explain them in a more detailed way. MelodyYifan (talk) 22:47, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Article Evaluation

[edit]

The article "Al Jazeera effect," which is about the concept and result of new media, is thorough but flawed. The clearest area for improvement is the writing itself, which is unwieldy at points, and grammatically incorrect at others. An example of the former issue is the following sentence from the "Origin and use" section: "It started as a response to the fact that governments in a lot of countries from the Arab League strictly controlled most forms of newspaper and TV journalism, and there was a lack of free press available." This could be written more concisely: It started as a response to the strict control governments in many Arab League countries exercised over most forms of newspaper and TV journalism, and the lack of a free press. Grammatical errors are present throughout, with varying degrees of severity. The talk section makes note of this.

The last five sentences of the "Origin and use" section recite a number of scholars' views, however I'd question whether the scholars need to be named in the body of the article. The writing could be made more concise by simply relating their ideas, and including their names and credentials in the citations. I also agree that the "Origin and use" section could include more about Al Jazeera's history, as its emergence as a new media source seems central to the article.
