Flagicons

[edit]

@.karellian-24: what is the reason for including flagicons in a professional record table? – 2.O.Boxing 19:43, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is the format for kickboxing, take a look. They chose a format, no one has ever taken out the flags, only some administrators change the boxes sometimes. It also identifies nationality. In kickboxing on Wikipedia we have some stupid rules and not equal to MMA/boxing, the record is not even built like boxing or MMA. You can fight a world champion without Wikipedia even in the second fight. Some of these are big names without Wikipedia pages and sometimes right from the career start. It is a totally different sport and from a boxing perspective it is very difficult to understand. I was a big fan of boxing and I watched it a lot. So I know. PLUS we don't even have Boxrec/Sherdog. Some of the information is collected from television. If you feel, you can remove the flagicons in the boxing record table! KarelRo 00:05, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Most of your pages (boxers) have them too. You also had a reason, just for identification. This is even more important here, I told you why. If you want to remove for boxing I don't mind, because most of them are anyway anonymous, most of the times cans. In kickboxing, some are world champions. KarelRo 00:11, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@.karellian-24: Per MOS:SPORTFLAG, Flags should never indicate the player's nationality in a non-sporting sense; flags should only indicate the sportsperson's national squad/team or representative nationality.

Where flags are used in a table, it should clearly indicate that they correspond to representative nationality, not legal nationality, if any confusion might arise.

Professional kickboxers--like boxers and MMA fighters--do not compete for a national squad/team or represent a country in an official capacity. As you noted above, the flagicons solely represent legal nationality. If there is some kind of local consensus regarding the inclusion of flagicons (I've checked the archives of the kickboxing task force and can't find anything), then I think WP:CONLEVEL would apply. – 2.O.Boxing 00:34, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mate, that's hilarous. As I stated, there is a consensus for kickboxing. I'm not going back hundreds of pages in 2007, because you've already checked the archive. If you want, do this for your boxing database, even though you've added flags to most of your articles. There is no confusion, for my articles is the right represensation. In kickboxing often a fighter can represent one country, and in another event another. If he is Dutch of Surinamese origin, he may represent the Netherlands or Suriname. It depends on which flag you enter. I never put the wrong flag. No admin has ever done this, only you are the first person. I'm not going to piss you off at the boxing section, am I? How does it affect you? We kickboxing contributors are affected (and even more so), especially since the rules are not the same when creating pages. A boxer only fights with cans at the beginning and after opponents with pages. Understand that we don't have Boxrec or Sherdog in kickboxing, and readers will have less knowledge. It doesn't help the database at all, it doesn't improve, just destroys it and drives away the fans. KarelRo 02:26, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@.karellian-24: There aren't hundreds of pages in the archives to check, there's only four. None of them discuss including flagicons (it wouldn't matter if there was a local consensus anyway, WP:CONLEVEL). Unless there's a compelling reason to go against SPORTFLAG, I'll remove them again, along with any others I see that go against SPORTFLAG.

To answer your query regarding the articles I've created; if you find any with flagicons in the record table then please, feel free to remove them. It's a tedious task and I've only managed to get through 50 or so. You'd also do well to remember that this is an encyclopaedia, not a database for sports fans to look at pretty flags. – 2.O.Boxing 07:24, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
