Removed Wiktionary tag. Apomorphies are very important concept in cladistics. Phlebas 16:28, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Article should be renamed

[edit]

This article should be renamed "Apomorphy and synapomorphy" as apomorphy is the more general term (derived trait) that is often explained first. In fact, the lead sentence of this article lists apormophy first and it is also described first in the next sentence and in the first section (Description) of this article. danielkueh (talk) 12:51, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Peter coxhead (talk) 06:16, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ok, great. We can do the move first. That would be easiest. danielkueh (talk) 07:17, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Translate?

[edit]

The Short description Derived characters of a clade does not make sense to me. Please could somebody add a simpler introduction to the subject for the lead and a clearer SD? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 12:17, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@GhostInTheMachine: I took a stab.[1] Let me know if it's more helpful. danielkueh (talk) 12:45, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it helps thanks. Any chance you could also have a go at the opening sentence? GhostInTheMachine talk to me 14:21, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve removed an unnecessary term, defined apomorphy more clearly, and used a simpler example. Hope that helps a little. :) danielkueh (talk) 14:38, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It does. Thanks — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 08:50, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
