Wondering what the following paragraph has to do with Armenia–Portugal relations:

One of the most notable Armenians who resided in Portugal was Calouste Gulbenkian. He was a wealthy Armenian businessman and philantropist, who made Lisbon the headquarters for his businesses. He established the international charity, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. He also founded the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon.

I removed it, but it was reinstated with a comment that this should be discussed here first. Other than this procedural point, there was not argument for how this factoid is relevant or why it should be included. Unless there are sources that put Gulbenkian's life in the context of Armenian-Portuguese relations (the ones cited in this article do not), its a stretch for us to do so. It's a bit like saying Keeping Up with the Kardashians has something to do with Armenia – United States relations. Yilloslime TC 20:58, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As part of the Armenian diaspora, if they aren't mentioned in the diaspora article, they should be. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 22:22, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll ask again: What does this stuff about Calouste Gulbenkian have to do with Armenia–Portugal relations? Every time I remove it, it gets put back in, yet no one is willing (thusfar) to defend it. I'm trying to follow WP:BRD here, but that doesn't work if the WP:OWNers of this article refuse to engage in discussion on the talkpage. I'm beginning to think some editors are more interested in WP:Battleing than actually working in good faith to build this encyclopedia. Someone please prove me wrong. Immigrant communities are often mentioned in these articles. In the same way that the United States and Ireland have relations based on immigrant population, the prominence of this individual and his contributions to Portuguese society make the inclusion of a reference to him here appropriate. Since removal of sourced relevant information during an Afd is a no-no even if there is a dispute regarding its relevance, I'll restore the information. If this is a continuing issue, then we can reargue the point more formally if the article is kept.--Cdogsimmons (talk) 17:53, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see it was already restored by RAN (1958-).--Cdogsimmons (talk) 17:55, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding, Cdog, I appreciate it. I don't agree with your statement that "removal of sourced relevant information during an Afd is a no-no even if there is a dispute regarding its relevance"--if you can cite a policy or something that says this, I'd love to see it, and will consider myself trout-slapped. As for the content issue at hand, I just don't see it. If there's a source mentions Calouste Gulbenkian in the context of A-P relations, then that's one thing, and conversely if sources on Gulbenkian relate him/his work to A-P than that's fine too. But for a wikepedian to aver that there's a connection is a stretch in my view. He happened to be Armenian, and he happen to reside in Portugal for part of his life. This seems irrelevant to the topic of A-P relations. If he's brokered at deal between these countries or was an ambassador or deputy cultural attaché or something, then I could see it, but all that's been demonstrated is happenstance. I note that Manute Bol is not mentioned in Sudan-United States relations, and this Bol's relation to the US and Sudan seems pretty parallel to Gulbenkian's relation to Portugal and Armenia. Yilloslime TC 19:34, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Then add it. Bigger articles have to trim sourced material, smaller articles need to bulk up on sourced material. There is no magic rule for what gets included, and what is omitted by design or neglect. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 20:58, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this clarification of your views on this topic. Yilloslime TC 21:04, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
