Removal of sections

[edit]

I've removed "Possible State League Teams" and "Possible FFA Cup draw" sections as there hasn't been any announcement about which teams will qualify for the tournament.--Rubaisport (talk) 13:19, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FFA Cup: more than A-League and NPL

[edit]

My understanding is that qualification for the state-based spots in the FFA Cup is based on performance in state based knockout cup competitions (not league positions). My understanding is also that most (if not all) state-based cups involve teams in leagues below the NPL divisions. Therefore, while it is more difficult for teams below the NPL divisions, it is quite possible for them to progress in the state-based cups and qualify for the FFA Cup. So whoever is writing the FFA Cup articles (ie this one and 2014 FFA Cup article) need to get away from writing things like the competition is for A-League and NPL club; it's also for teams lower down the leagues! --TinTin (talk) 01:09, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Listing Qualification Cup Tournaments?

[edit]

Is it too early to make a table with the probable (some are confirmed) qualification cup tournaments against each states number of places? Or should this wait until the FFA officially announce this tournament? Something like(but obviously in a table):

NT Clubs Involvement?

[edit]

Also will NT Clubs ever be involved? Anyone know? Any references to them?--TinTin (talk) 00:58, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Format

[edit]

As there has already been some reference by FFA that the format may change in future years, I suggest that the bulk of the information in this section on Format should be moved to the 2014 FFA Cup page instead under Format. Currently that section for the current competition contains less information that what is described here in a competition overview page. Or perhaps it needs to be largely duplicated on the 2014 FFA Cup page. Matilda Maniac (talk) 08:36, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is a new logo now https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=674199539313638&set=a.636323243101268.1073741827.330552903678305&type=1&theater could someone with a confirmed account upload the logo to the page? Qualification Spots per Year

[edit]
Area Competition Round of 32 Spots
2014 2015
National A-League 10 10
NPL 0 1
ACT Federation Cup 1 1
NNSW State-wide Cup 2 2
NSW Waratah Cup 7 5
NT TBA 0 1
Qld FQ Cup 4 4
SA Federation Cup 1 1
Tas Milan Lakoseljac Cup 1 1
Vic Dockerty Cup 4 4
WA State Cup 2 2

Do you think a table like that above would be useful? Particularly if qualification spots are allocated differently over time? --TinTin (talk) 22:29, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Appearance Table

[edit]

Good work on this, but I have recommended some changes to it here Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Australia task force#FFA Cup appearances table, please discuss on that page. Cheers, --TinTin (talk) 00:14, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cupsets

[edit]

This section isn’t notable. Cupsets happen almost yearly. Doesn’t appear on other country’s cup articles. Future-proofing this now so in 50 years, this table isn’t several meters long. - J man708 (talk) 00:56, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, it's tabloid fancruft. The introductory paragraph contains unsourced claims. Pointless trivia. HiLo48 (talk) 03:06, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Hilo48 and J man708. We've already had quite a few and the competition hasn't even been around that long.Simione001 (talk) 21:08, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone else? - J man708 (talk) 14:07, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Operating under the assumption that they are properly cited/referenced there's no reason to exclude a section about them, or to include them in the record & statistics section or history as part of the regular flow of an article (not a table). This article is about a competition and discussing certain results in said competition is hardly irrelevant. Adding text regarding major upsets, pro/semi-pro teams losing to amateurs, a winner being X tiers below the defeated is not "tabloid fancruft" when supported by relevant sources. What is or is not on other articles is OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, and what matters in "50 years" is a matter for 50 years in the future for future editors to worry about. Adelaide City beating WSW for the first defeat of an A-League team, Sydney United beating two AL teams to make the final. A-League teams win 85% of the time so there aren't that many AL vs NPL upsets. I don't think it would need to be too long a section though. Macktheknifeau (talk) 16:33, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
