First thoughts; a small but interesting article that looks close to GA status.

  • The lead section should summarise the article, where in this case it appears to introduce it. I'd suggest moving some of the content into prelude and later sections and expanding the lead (I'd expect to see ~2 paragraphs for an article of this size)
  • Done. See if that fits now.
  • I'd suggest slightly more context be added to the prelude in terms of the war itself and the current situation; I can't see an obvious link that would take me to an "overview" so I could learn about the context & surrounding events of the civil war at this time.
  • Done. I've added a "Main" template, and I've expanded the Prelude with a general summary of the campaign from Cowpens to the Catawba.
  • Not a major issue, but the image of the DAR marker and the map are compressing text between them; MOS:IMAGES#Location suggests avoiding this. In this case it doesn't look bad, but test it on smaller screens to be sure.
  • Done. I can see this being a problem; my iPad (the smallest screen I have) shows it being awkwardly placed; I've moved it to the right to conform with MOS:IMAGES.
  • Sources spot check and image review; checkY
  • the militia formerly commanded by Davidson; this implies he no longer commanded it at this time??
  • Done. He was dead by this time (died at Cowan's Ford, earlier. I've made that clear now.
  • citizens sympathetic to the Patriots between the Catawba and Yadkin rivers; they were only sympathetic to the Patriots between these two rivers? Or they lived between these two rivers? :)
  • Clarified!
  • Tarleton, who commanded the British Legion, a force...; is this the force he has been commanding in previous mentions? If so, I suggest this needs to go into the prelude section.
  • Done. At Cowpens, he commanded a much larger force, but the unit that was his regular and usual command was the British Legion. Moved the British legion wikilink up the the first para of the "pursuit" section, but left the explanation of it structure where it was.
  • Torrence's Tavern; I can't see any real description of the location... is it possible to include a brief description of the site of the battle?
  • Done. An exact description of the battlefield isn't anywhere in my sources, only that there was a road, a tavern, and possibly a fence. These days, the site is underneath a mixture of one state highway, one modern thoroughfare, an access road, a railroad line, and several houses, churches, and the local fire department, so the site's present state gives no clues as to how it looked. I added that it was on a road to Salisbury from the ford, which is about the best info I have.
  • Tarleton claimed to have led the charge despite lacking support by reminding his cavalrymen to "remember the Cowpens"; I'm struggling to make sense of what you're trying to say here. He led (as in up front) the charge? Or he convinced them to charge, without support, with those words?
  • Done. The sources say he personally led the charge, and the attack was done without support from the main army. I think I've clarified.
  • In the second paragraph of "Assault of the British Legion" the timeline is a bit confusing. Was Greene waiting for the militia force from the Tavern and, when it failed to arrive, retreated?
  • Done. I think I've cleared some of this up in both the "Prelude" and "Assault" sections.

I have made some minor copyedits to the prose, please review these and make sure they are OK. --Errant (chat!) 09:41, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've think I've addressed all of your concerns. I only need to get a page number in for the Jerry Cross reference, which I can do when I get home at lunch in a few hours. Thanks for your help so far! Your edits were fine with me. Cdtew (talk) 15:33, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the broken link to the NC Highway marker. It now works. If this highway marker marks the approximate location of the Battle, should its coordinates not be the same for the page? The current coordinates don't appear to be correct. 14:00, 26 February 2019 (UTC) User_talk:G. Moore

Confusion over result

Hello Cdtew (talk · contribs). I am directing this to you because you have done most of the work on this article. The second paragraph seems to have become turned around in terms of who won. I don’t know if there was an error in copying some text or vandalism. I suspect you can deal with it most effectively. Humphrey Tribble (talk) 07:10, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
