Graves at Bayonet Trench (1920)
  • ... that a popular myth held that the French soldiers interred in Bayonet Trench (pictured) were buried alive with their rifles in their hands?
  • Source: "a legend, capturing the popular imagery of the bayonet, soon emerged: the men of the French 137th had supposedly been buried alive by German bombardment after they attached their bayonets and held their rifles upright." from: Harp, Stephen L. (14 December 2001). Marketing Michelin: Advertising and Cultural Identity in Twentieth-Century France. JHU Press. pp. 113–114. ISBN 978-0-8018-6651-7.

  • Very nice work on a worthy topic. Article is new enough (moved to mainspace 11/23) and long enough (> 5000 characters of narrative text). Well written and sourced. Earwig raised an alert with this source but a closer review reveals nothing problematic. The hook is interesting, sourced, and short enough. QPQ satisfied. Image has PD tag, shows well at 100x100px, and is worthy of the lead/image slot. Cbl62 (talk) 16:03, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
