Proposing to merge this page with Bellary Assembly constituency. As per Election Commission of India - Constituency list, Bellary Rural constituency does not exit. During 2008 delimitation order, the original Bellary constituency was re-organized, and new Bellary City constituency was created. But no new Bellary Rural constituency was created. See 2008 Delimitation Order, 2023 Assembly Election Result and Karnataka Legistature, Members list - all indicate Assembly number 93 is named simply Bellary. --Sathiyaraj (talk) 09:41, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
- Support I guess it was created as Bellary Rural just to differentiate it from Bellary City, but all official sources only use the name Bellary. I support the merge to Bellary Assembly constituency. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:17, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose This Constituency predominantly comprises of Rural Parts of Bellary. Election Commission picked short form of the name. The guidelines in Wikipedia state for WP:COMMONNAME:
"Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's 'official' name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)."

- Comment: Many news articles simply refer this constituency as Bellary. See [37], [38], [39], [40], [41], [42], [43], [44], [45], [46], [47]. Mainly, by having this page, Bellary Assembly constituency is categorized as defunct; which is not a fact. --Sathiyaraj (talk) 08:50, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- It looks like this is a close call that could be argued either way (both the long and short names are in common use; short name is in official use). I've added some hatnotes to help distinguish the pages. That might also help to ensure that readers know that there is a current constituency sometimes (or frequently) called Bellamy. Rather than merge, it would also be possible to move the page in such a way that the common name is in the title, though the use of a disambiguator. So, for example, to move Bellary Rural Assembly constituency to Bellary Assembly constituency (2008–). Klbrain (talk) 10:36, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
