Black Sabbath isn't just Heavy Metal it's also Doom Metal, plenty of their songs and albums have had the Doom atmosphere like Children Of The Grave and Planet Caravan, not sure why Wikipedia hasn't added this when this has been noted by several Metal communities and websites throughout the band's history WrestleLuxury Wiki (talk) 13:13, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because that has been discussed already a good amount of times. See this discussion here. They inspired doom metal, but just because a few songs of theirs had that doom metal sound does not make them a "doom metal" band, and there are plenty of coverage that supports that they are not doom. It says in the short description that they're a heavy metal band, but it says that they're a rock band in the article. It makes sense only to label them in both cases as simply a metal band, since they did heavy metal and heavy metal with a kind of doom sound mainly, not just "rock." That has been discussed multiple times, see these discussions here and here. Per the discussion in Archive 5, it has been agreed that the band is to be referred to as "rock" in the lead section, while being called "heavy metal" in the infobox.
