Charles Barber

[edit]

About a year ago Disinformation (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) added "Bly is best known for being the childhood home of Charles Barber, billionaire visionary and philanthropist", but did not add a supporting reference. I have removed this for the following reasons:

  • there is no reference, and it seems only reasonable that (for a living person) we have a reliable source (even if the information isn't pejorative)
  • I can find no evidence of this person in online searches; there appears to be no billionaire or philanthropist by that name, or no notable person associated with Bly
  • Disinformation hasn't edited wikipedia since, and his name hardly fills one with confidence

If anyone has concrete, reliable sources that support the above claim, then naturally I'd be happy for this info to be in the article, but right now I fear it's a hoax. 87.114.33.205 (talk) 15:40, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good call, I'm sorry I didn't notice the vandalism earlier. Katr67 (talk) 17:56, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed Source for Ali Muhammad Brown

[edit]

An editor believes that a mainstream news source which has proven to be authoritative and reliable for terrorism cannot be used when they interviewed FBI agents who said Mr. Brown was believed to have traveled to a terrorist training camp in Bly Ore, and threatened this editor with a ban.Bachcell (talk) 22:41, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ali Muhammad Brown who was convicted of a bank scam raising money for terrorists in Somalia and told authorities after his arrest that he had murdered two gay men, a random pedestrian and a student to defend his religion is believed to have traveled to the camp as a teen. Why are we having the same discussion on two talk pages? (See Talk:Ali Muhammad Brown#Seemingly ordinary crimes as terrorist attacks.) And why won't you read WP:BLP?
Fox News stories that cite former FBI agents who believe Brown may have done something as a teenager is absolutely not sufficient for a WP:BLP. Please start a discussion at WP:BLP/N or WP:RS/N if you disagree. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 22:51, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
