I thought it was Portland, Oregon...

Mayfield lived in Aloha, & his legal offices were in West Slope, where he was arrested -- both are suburbs of Portland, so the confusion is inevitable. Currently he is incarcerated in Portland, so I guess his Portland connection is correct on that point. ;-) llywrch 21:34, 8 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to lawsuits filed by Mayfield? and did Mayfield receive any compensation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cattyman (talkcontribs)

None of Mayfield's suits against the government have reached a conclusion yet. It is extremely unlikely that he will receive any monetary compensation. -- Anomicene 17:33, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is why Wikipedia is not a crysral ball. It is now November, the lawsuit is over and he is $2 million richer. Rmhermen 00:49, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone needs to go through this and actually ref all this information. The "external links" section isn't enough. If no one steps forward, I reckon I'll get around to it sooner or later.Ford MF 18:38, 9 December 2006 (UTC) I wasn't able to update the link under references to the Federal Court judges ruling, but it can now be found here http://www.ord.uscourts.gov/index.php?option=com_phocadownload&view=category&download=155%3Aopinion-and-order-in-brandon-mayfield-v-usa-04-cv-1427-aa&id=39%3Anotable-rulings&Itemid=457&lang=en — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.14.39.129 (talk) 22:43, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This whole entry is hagiographic and needs substantial changes. 2603:9001:4200:F110:D539:7BEB:1B36:BB0B (talk) 13:31, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Arrest and Detention

[edit]

This section has a few subjective comments. At one point it refers to him by his first name, and at another it claims that he was prosecuted "most likely simply because he is Muslim" without attribution. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the entire article was taken from an alternative newsweekly rather than written from scratch. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.101.85.39 (talk) 23:58, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, to me this sounds like someone arguing a case more than an encyclopedic article. Though perhaps factual, perhaps this article would read a little more legitimately if it was written objectively. 99.252.166.181 13:40, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Much of the article appears opinionated and seems to be arguing a particular position. It needs to be more neutral and requires some editing. I put a warning to that effect on the article.ZookieByTheSea (talk) 23:26, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so let's fix it.

Here's another article that might make a good source: http://www.kgw.com/news-local/stories/kgw_071305_news_mayfield_fbi.a2ccad5b.html -Pete (talk) 00:52, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How did the gov't come to have Brandon Mayfield's fingerprints anyways?

[edit]

Was it Mayfield's military service that resulted in the gov't having his fingerprints on file?

In general, how would the average US citizen's fingerprint be obtained by the gov't - assuming no previous criminal record or involvement with police? Do certain professions (like lawyers, or others) have to submit fingerprints to the gov't? Do you have to submit fingerprints in some states to get certain licenses? Say, drivers license, or permit to own/carry a gun? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.12.202.245 (talk) 13:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In Oregon all lawyers are fingerprinted in order to be admitted to the State Bar, although pesky things like felony convictions (Mayfield didn’t have any as far as I know) don’t hinder such licenses. 2603:9001:4200:F110:D539:7BEB:1B36:BB0B (talk) 13:30, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

According to an MSNBC article, Mayfield's fingerprint was obtained as the result of a burglary arrest when he was a teenager (although it's a good point that they also likely had it as the result of his military service). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.14.39.129 (talk) 22:47, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
