Recoveries

[edit]

The Hawaii State Department of Health does not seem to be reporting the number of recoveries, and there doesn't seem to be a source that tracks this data. Therefore, I am removing this column from the table. Please feel free to revert me if a reliable source on recoveries is found. Aoi (青い) (talk) 21:35, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is a late response, but 339-med found an official source for recovery data so this information has been readded to the article and associated templates. Aoi (青い) (talk) 23:03, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Honolulu Star Advertiser reported on May 8, 2020 that the Department of Health's "released from isolation" numbers included deaths and persons who have left the jurisdiction.[1] After the report came out, DOH removed people who have died and people who have left the jurisdiction from the "released from isolation category."[2] Due to the way HDOH was reporting these numbers, the data in this article (most notably the bar chart) has been double counting deaths in the recovery numbers, so I'm going to subtract out the number of deaths from the recovery numbers for all dates prior to 5/9/2020. Material removed from article; keeping here for additional consideration

[edit]

While I was cleaning up the article just now, I removed some material from the article. I'm noting the removal here with the relevant diff as some of the material I removed for reasons of WP:UNDUE, WP:NPOV, or as overly detailed, might be worth adding back into the article with different prose. COVID Racial Disparity

[edit]

Would it be appropriate to mention the racial disparity of COVID cases in Hawaiʻi? KHON2 reports Pacific Islanders (Hawaiians, Samoans, Micronesians, etc.) having a disproportionate amount of cases compared to their overall population: https://www.khon2.com/coronavirus/hawaii-among-nations-worst-for-covid-racial-disparity/Coastaline (talk) 01:29, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think that would be appropriate. Just wanted to clarify though – when DOH reports its cases by race, the category "Pacific Islanders" does not include Native Hawaiians. Native Hawaiians is its own specific category. See this link for the raw numbers (click race tab). Pacific Islanders (excluding Native Hawaiians) make up 4% of the state population but 30% of the COVID-19 cases; in contrast, Native Hawaiians make up 21% of the population but only 14% of the COVID-19 cases. Thanks for the clarification. I myself was a bit confused since I assumed "Pacific Islander" included Native Hawaiians, but I also found the 4% figure to be way too low if it included Hawaiians so that makes sense. Should I put the racial disparity figures as its own subheading? I was thinking it could also be put in the "Statistics" section. - Coastaline (talk) 02:01, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Daily table

[edit]

It's getting very long. Time to switch to weekly or 4-weekly data instead. Or at least, find a more compact way to present the data. One way is to make a standard bar chart, take a snapshot of it, upload the snapshot and link to it. Lfstevens (talk)

COI Revert (June 2024)

[edit]

I've reverted recent edits that were identified as reflecting a conflict of interest; however, I have no objection if another editor (other than User:RubenJuarez1) wishes to add the reverted material back into the article. Musashi1600 (talk) 05:43, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
