Question about possible change to article name

[edit]

Currently this article is called "Capture of the Wadi el Hesi" but I wonder if "Capture of Wadi el Hesi" (removing the "the") would be more grammatically correct? Anotherclown (talk) 07:36, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure Anotherclown. I seem to remember on another article quite recently, where 'the' was added because it was felt to be more grammatically correct. Was it the Raid on the Beersheba to Hafir el Auja railway? --Rskp (talk) 22:28, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I think your recollection is correct (i.e. "the" was added to that title), but its not grammatically the same (at least to my ear). I'm not 100% on rules of grammar but I think as a place name "Wadi el Hesi" wouldn't seem to require the definite article (e.g. we wouldn't write "Battle of the Albury-Wadonga" - we would present it as "Battle of Albury-Wadonga"); however, "Beersheba to Hafir el Auja railway" would seem to need it (e.g. we would probably use the definite article here: "Capture of the Sydney-Canberra railway", not "Capture of Sydney-Canberra railway"). Yes, I see what you mean. You seem to have a better grasp of the issues than I do, so I will leave it in your safe hands. --Rskp (talk) 00:54, 29 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Gday again. I had a look at a few of our other articles and this seems consistent with presentation elsewhere, for instance:
As such I've gone ahead and made the change. All the best. Anotherclown (talk) 07:20, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
