Disputes

[edit]

Disputable lines in this article:

  • "making him the first student accepted into university without finishing any public examinations in Hong Kong. [4]" - not clearly stated in item 4
  • "He is the first Hong Kong student skiping his Form-6 study and get a seat in a local university by the direct invitation of HKUST's principal." - no verifible source provided.
  • "He had claimed before that he could get A in several subjects and taught other students "how to deal with the exam" through the media" - no verifible source provided.

Lines needing cleanup:

  • "He was however invited to study in The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) because of his "talent in science". He is the first Hong Kong student skiping his Form-6 study and get a seat in a local university by the direct invitation of HKUST's principal. ... In May 2006, he was accepted by the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology for a 4-year undergraduate study (including an 1-year preparatory course), making him the first student accepted into university without finishing any public examinations in Hong Kong. [4]" - Can be combined into a single paragraph.
  • "Chan Yik Hei made a great argument in the internet, especially in famous Hong Kong internet forum, HKGolden, HKEPC and Miniforum. His supporters said Chan Yik Hei is a rare genius from Hong Kong as he can make a robot that most people cannot, so Hong Kong citizen should be proud of him." - Not a critism.
  • "Here are Chan Yik Hei's HKCEE result which confirmed by Hong Kong's newspaper." Factual information is not a critism.
  • The correlation between HKCEE English and TOEFL result had not been approved by any kind of authority.
  • Other grammatical errors.

Replying 203.198.178.241:
Disputable lines in this article:
  • "making him the first student accepted into university without finishing any public examinations in Hong Kong. [4]" - not clearly stated in item 4
    • Changed. The new source states that explicitly.
  • "He is the first Hong Kong student skiping his Form-6 study and get a seat in a local university by the direct invitation of HKUST's principal." - no verifible source provided.
    • Same with item 4. Also, the line is removed due to duplication.
  • "He had claimed before that he could get A in several subjects and taught other students "how to deal with the exam" through the media" - no verifible source provided.
    • Yea.... this is a problem... Tagged.

    • Combined.

    • Agree to all three points above. However, his HKCEE result by subject had no source, and I think it should not be considered as "factual information". Moreover, the section is combined into the main part or removed.
  • Other grammatical errors.
    • I think most of them have been altered.
Due to the recent improvements stated above, I suggest the tags to be removed.

The first undergraduate without HKCEE?

[edit]

Mingpao's article suggests that Chan is the first undergraduate without public exams results, but this statement was made by the principal of Chan's school and without further confirmation on that. By his words, "Chan might be", but not "Chan is". Disappointed by Mingpao's misleading report style, I've removed the link to that article in reference section, which is supposed to include only reliable source.
