Platt's Nationality

[edit]

It is interesting to note that Charles Platt is not his real name!!--Mr.Atoz (talk) 22:00, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh how wonderful, yet another triumph of the Wikipedia principle of allowing equal access to uninformed idiots. If Charles Platt is not my real name, are you going to tell me what my real name is? And if naturalized American citizens are not American writers, how many American writers are you going to throw out? Also I note that some other person who edited the text that I wrote about myself has mangled the grammar. Why? Time to set up my own home page I guess.:70.23.235.139 (talk) 03:23, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Charlesplatt, July 2, 2008.[reply]
Asimov would might be in the same category -- Russian, but listed as an American writer ----Mr.Atoz (talk) 05:15, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Though Platt has become a US citizen, I'm not really sure he belongs in the American .... categories. Culturally and by upbringing, he's British. Any thoughts on how this is usually resolved? --Pleasantville 16:20, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Culture and upbringing have nothing to do with how a writer is classified. where is he living when he publishes, who publishes his works? He has written books while living in the US, as a citizen or as a permanent resident, this qualifies him as an american writer. If he wrote books while living in britain (i see a 67 pub date), he could also be categorized as a british writer. categories are not mutually exclusive, and tend to be inclusive. if he spent a summer in france, wrote a novel in french, which was notable in france, he would also be a french writer. The only barrier to categorizations are: having sources showing subject x is in category y, the skill of the writer in figuring out appropriate categories, and the relative notability of the subject (the more notable, the more people will have written about him as "theirs"-mark twain is a good example of this, for states claiming an author).Mercurywoodrose (talk) 23:56, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking for the other Charles Platt.

[edit]

I was looking for information on Charles Platt who co piled One Thousand and One Emergencies And What To Do. This is someone different as that book was published in 1926, but are they related?
