(in footnote, quoting John Gordon) 'Clubsessel' (559.06), the peculiar misspelling of German klubsessel "Club" is an English loanword in German, "Klub" is a Germanized variant, both are correct.[1] In fact de.wiki has de:Clubsessel as the lemma. Gordon's spelling "klubsessel" is obviously incorrect, as German nouns are capitalized. Of course it might be argued that when Finnegans Wake was published in 1939, the C variant was rare [2] and possibly nonstandard.
