PeopleAggregator

[edit]

You should probably update the listing for them. According to their own site, they are not free. I am guessing that hey are also not open source as there is no source code available. It's strictly SAAS - software as a service. You can reference their home page here - http://www.broadbandmechanics.com/ - and if you look under Services -> SaaS Turn Key Services it requires a TWO YEAR commitment. I don't know about pricing as you have to inquire to find out. Any time it's not posted plainly on the site, my experience is that it's incredibly expensive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.119.81.135 (talk) 20:57, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

General Purpose CMS aten`t "social network software"

[edit]

Drupal, Impress CMS, Joomla! and XOOPS are CMS, not social network software. It`s possible to build social networks in those plataforms with addons, but as they are presented It`s like the plain installation is a social network. Addon packages like Open Atrium and others can be put directly in the list, but not plain CMS. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.165.72.18 (talk) 00:53, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

There needs to be more prose on this, to make it clear what it's about, and also why it's notable. Refs would be good too! At the moment, it's a prime candidate for deletion.. Paulbrock 13:35, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree.Jellevc (talk) 18:41, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It shouldn't be deleted - it's very useful (and see comment below) 68.120.199.216 (talk) 09:45, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ODS neutrality

[edit]

the column on ODS includes significant superfluous language extolling its virtues, while the others leave a simple "yes" or "no", making them seem inerior.

Furthermore, the information on things like Elgg are woefully out of date. (yes yes I know, just go edit the page instead of complaining about it...) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.83.31.1 (talk) 17:52, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]

This really needs to be updated. For example, Elgg has come a long way, and some features listed as not included are included. I might just update at least that column. Second on the ODS neutrality, but I don't know enough about it to change much. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.97.154.119 (talk) 22:57, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article does not include any Japanese SNS freeware. 137.22.96.105 (talk) 16:07, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't huddle[1] be on here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.104.201.91 (talk) 16:27, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

basis?

[edit]

what is the basis for inclusion on this page? Angrysusan (talk) 01:16, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

and if two of the platforms aren't notable enough to have their own article, they certainly needn't be listed here Angrysusan (talk) 01:17, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This page is amazingly useful to organisations looking to add social networking functionality to their website. For example, it would have been useful to the University of Sussex's SPLASH project which looked to compare potential social networking software. It is much easier to have this table than to visit each of the softwares' sites independently. --Bethgranter (talk) 11:46, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral Point of View

[edit]

This is a fairly short list. As noted in the "basis?" topic above, it's not clear why these particular applications were chosen. Also, some list features as available by way of plugins, modules, or other third party modifications. Using that logic, I imagine they're all capable of everything. Corsulian (talk) 12:46, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dolphin_smart_community_script needs adding. I don't have time to add it right now. --Hm2k (talk) 17:15, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OpenQabal + List of social networking software

[edit]

There is missing information about openqabal [2]. Please, put that references.

For the other hand, I think it's missing a page "List of social networking software" (like for example filesystem has: comparison and list). It's easier to put an entry to the list intead of putting in comparison (too many fields)

invert chart

[edit]

Can this chart be inverted so that current columns (software names) become rows and current rows become columns (categories). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.195.227.134 (talk) 14:59, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

agreed - can this be done?

24.47.204.139 (talk) 19:09, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a must. We cannot make comparison with this kind of table.

--Vireax (talk) 13:36, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I started on it. Someone else is free to finish it, otherwise it'll have to wait.

Proposal: add Crabgrass to list of social network engines

[edit]

see the about Crabgrass page for a list of features. It has moved from alpha to beta.

Known current installations:

Jive, and a checklist of currently rated products

[edit]

I am surprised by the absence of Jive Software, which is now considered by many reviewers as one of the leading platforms. Because of its absence, I think this page is rather dated, not very useful, and potentially fails the NPOV test.

FYI, the following ratings are all from 2010, and Jive appears in all of them:

  • Forrester (Forrester Wave on Community Platform Vendors, Q4'10)
    • Lithium Technologies and Jive Software "led the pack because of their mature tool sets and depth of services offered."
    • KickApps, Telligent Systems, and Mzinga "each offer capable technology solutions, best-suited for specific marketers who need extremely quick and light deployments, have technical resources at their disposal, or who are easing their way into social business tools."
    • "All five of these vendors are mature offerings, with a significant lead on the rest of the vendors in this rather crowded space."
  • Gartner (Magic Quadrant on "Internal Social Software," Oct. 2010)
    • Leaders: Microsoft, Jive Software, IBM
    • Challengers: OpenText, Atlassian
    • Visionaries: Telligent, SocialText, SuccessFactors, Drupal, NewsGator, Huddle, bluekiwi
    • Niche Players: Saba, Ektron, Novell, Igloo Software, Liferay, EPiServer, Traction Software, ThoughtFarmer, TWiki, XWiki, Realcom US
  • InfoTech Research's Evaluation of Enterprise Collaboration Software, Q2'2010:
    • Best: OpenText Social Media 7 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
    • Contenders: CenterStage, Quickr, Socialtext
    • "Vanguard" ("products that will appeal in particular niches"): Drupal, Jive

Here's another list of software that belongs on this page: https://www.quora.com/Who-are-Jives-competitors TRS-80 (talk) 05:29, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kentico and DotNetNuke?

[edit]

The current list seems to be heavily biased towards PHP based CMS engines. There are two critical sites that you guys may want to consider adding that are .NET based:

Kentico: http://www.kentico.com/ DotNetNuke: http://www.dotnetnuke.com

Both of these have extensive user bases and hundreds of thousands of global implementations. Seems like they should definitely be in this list to me. I'm not attached to any specific technology, but the list as it is now without these 2 is incomplete. My .02 cents.

[edit]

The citation for ODS/Virtuoso's license was marked as a dead URL today (30 Oct 2011) as I went through and cleaned up source citations. Two issues:

  1. The only archived page I could find was Google's cache of the page, which is a less-than-ideal archive.
  2. The archive of the page was only about a week old, so the original might be live, but the organization might be having server or domain issues today.

If the link is subsequently found to be live, the archive URL and related should be removed. rmburkhead (talk) 17:39, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile Support

[edit]

The level of support for mobile devices is would be much more interesting than many of the other rows in the table. I have found out that moovim has responsive design, and dolpin even has native apps for iOS and Android. 80.153.72.154 (talk) 16:02, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

JCow

[edit]

Need a column added to the table for Jcow, a PHP based engine. Another small one not listed is Qolzam using React. WilliamKF (talk) 22:08, 23 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
