I find the explanation of conscious evolution singularly uninformative. "Conscious evolution refers to the claim that humanity has now acquired the ability to choose what the species Homo Sapiens becomes ..." But surely just about everyone knows and accepts this in some sense. It all depends on who does the choosing. We know, for example, that our nuclear weapons can wipe out the earth if those in control of them choose to fire them. Governments have some ability to control carbon emissions, depending on their democratic discretion, etc. So in what sense does conscious evolution add or take away from what is generally known?
The second sentence is similarly vague. It is widely accepted that life in general is in a state of continuous and gradual evolution. There seems to be no reason to exclude human life. The contentious question is whether or not evolution is directed towards something. Secularists insist that evolution has not direction. Writers such as Teilhard de Chardin believe that it is directed towards increased complexity / consciousness. He makes some effort to explain what he means. But what do the adherents of conscious evolution believe? Towards what kind of thing / state are we on the cusp of evolving?
And the final sentence is also uninformative. What is meant by "advancement" --- better physical conditions? Or some kind of spiritual evolution? And who believes the contrary of the sentence --- that if humans choose to co-operate and co-create then we will not "advance"?
Perhaps all of this is because the promoters of conscious evolution such as Marx Hubbard do not actually know what they mean. Muller's critique of conscious evolution is also vague --- but what he said is correctly reported. However, LCWR did not "promulgate" conscious evolution, but had Barabara Marx Hubbard as a speaker at one of its events. For what it is worth, my suspicion is that Muller is concerned that conscious evolution attacks the doctrine of original sin, or more generally, that it asserts that humans are becoming more moral --- either individually or collectively. However, as far as I know, Muller never says this explicitly CarlosChio (talk)
I find your criticism unhelpful CarlosChio. there is a book on this topic; cite that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.103.198.194 (talk) 13:59, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
