"radiocarbon dated to 11,370 ± 40 years Before Present (about 13,200 calendar years ago)." Why the discrepancy? 11,370+70=12,070 adjusting 1950 and 2020. Is the discrepancy due to calibration? If so, this needs to be at least alluded to. Kdammers (talk) 03:43, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, thats what the source says AFAICT for the relevant layer. They used INTCAL20 for calibration. I linked the article doi in the ref. Take a look if you like [1] and if you have a better analysis feel free. The 16K years ago number the secondary source mentions is for beginning of any occupation at the site btw.Ploversegg (talk) 04:06, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The study "Late Upper Paleolithic Occupation at Cooper's Ferry, Idaho, USA, ~16,000 Years Ago" gives the date range as between 16,560 and 15,280 calibrated years before the present. Why doesn't the current version of this Wikipedia article mention this? Isn't this the oldest known archaeological site in the Americas? 98.123.38.211 (talk) 02:09, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
