Out of use?

[edit]

I got rid of the bit about the name falling out of use at an early age. That is nonsense, I know a living Daire! It's an unusual spelling of the name more commonly given as Darragh but it does exist. Botta Perbus (talk) 22:16, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Darragh has a separate origin. Dáire has been revived a little, but the article is not incorrect. The name is basically unseen for a millennium following the Early Medieval Period, existing only high up in some genealogies and in various legends. DinDraithou (talk) 00:43, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to add there there is no fada on the 'a' in the name Daire. Including a fada completely changes the pronounciation from a short 'a' sound to a 'long' one. Daire is pronounced - 'Dhaa-re', including the fada changes it to 'Dhaw-re'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.101.57.192 (talk) 11:44, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The inclusion of the fada (á) is a hyperforeignisation i.e. trying to make it sound more Irish than the name already is and is incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.101.57.192 (talk) 11:59, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation needed

I checked all the pages listed, and none of them has an IPA guide. Can someone post one here, please? Thanks, Aristophanes68 (talk) 17:48, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology

[edit]

Oghmatist, a couple of points. One, do not delete cited information. Two, daire, with a short a, meaning oak grove, is not the same word as dáire with a long a, so the citation you provided is inaccurate. --Nicknack009 (talk) 13:42, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is this a list?

I'm not sure! Sarah777 (talk) 22:12, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
