Sufficient?D-rew (talk) 01:20, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It should never have been nominated for speedy--you had already asserted notability. The question now is whether it is enough to be kept, which is another matter. It has been difficult to establish for columnists. Good luck with it. DGG (talk) 01:29, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I thought the speedy was a bit lazy, but obviously couldn't say so m'self. I will advocate for the article though because of his prominence as an author, specifically of the book To See Every Bird on Earth, which, while not a best-seller, actually performed quite well. Reminds me, I should probably find sales numbers. Anyway, do you have any recommendations of demonstrating notability of an author/columnist, or do you (or others reading) think that he conforms to wiki standards of notability from this article? D-rew (talk) 01:36, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I am the person who is the subject of the stub. While I think that whether I am worthy of the entry itself is for others to judge, I would like to point out two inaccuracies: first, my book will be published December 27, 2007, not December 7, 2007. Second, I think it is overstating it to call me a media commentator. I have done several radio pieces, but they were quite a while ago, and not terribly significant. There's plenty of information about me, if somebody is interested in adding to the entry; two things that I'd point out are that I've written an episode of "Star Trek: the Next Generation" (Season seven, I believe; it was called "Inheritance" and that I was elected to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 2003 for my work as a columnist for Mountain Bike magazine, where I've appeared monthly since 1995 (and continue to do so now.) A story I wrote for "Bicycling" magazine appeared in "Best American Sportswriting of 2006." As I said, I'm not trying to say what should be included in a Wikipedia entry on me, or whether there should be one at all. But the corrections are important, and the relevant resume highlights I've added could be of interest. Thanks. I am new to the way Wikipedia operates, so please excuse me if my self-interjection is inappropriate. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.174.193.200 (talk) 08:19, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Koeppel, sorry for the delay in response, but let me say it is always wonderful (and exciting) on Bio pages to have the person being profiled to at least be aware of the page and available for comment and verification. So first let me welcome you to Wikipedia, and help you get acquianted. First you might want to get a username because this way your identity is verifiable, and being a member in the community allows you to be recognized when you make edits or comments. You also should sign any comments you make on talk pages at the end by simply typing four tildes (~), like this: ~~~~, which is simply Wiki shorthand to sign your post (note that you should only do this on talk pages). Also, I would normally put most of this intro stuff on your userpage, but in lieu of you having one right now, this will do since you are more likely to read this anyway until you get more acquainted with some of the do-dads of WP. You might want to check out some of these pages for starters, Frequently Asked Questions, Tutorial, How to edit a page, and Five Pillars of Wikipedia. Secondly, since this page is your own biography you might want to check out Wikipedia:Autobiography#If Wikipedia already has an article_about_you, just for some shtick on what is and isn't considered Kosher for editing your own Bio, and so you know comments on the talk page relevant to the article are always welcomed. The most helpful comments are those that are accompanied by references to third party sources. Again, its a pleasure to welcome you and I hope you find editing WP as good a time waster as I do =-). P.S. I'm sure you've seen the article on To See Every Bird on Earth, and would just like you to know that your comments are obviously welcome over there as well.D-rew (talk) 20:58, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
