[edit]

I don't know a thing about this topic, but I Googled "diathermy" and found that this article seems to be at odds with the following and other hits:

The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05.

diathermy

(d´thûr´´m) (KEY) , therapeutic measure used in medicine to generate heat in the body tissues. Electrodes and other instruments are used to transmit electric current to surface structures, thereby increasing the local blood circulation and facilitating and accelerating the process of absorption and repair. Diathermy is used for arthritis, bursitis, and other disorders of the tendons and muscles, as well as for certain other conditions requiring tissue repair. Because of the high-frequency current used in shortwave diathermy, care must be taken to avoid burning the patient’s skin or injuring the deeper tissues.

I've fixed this with a disambig. The original page is actually talking about surgical diathermy, which is much better known as electrosurgery.Sbharris 02:29, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Severe Burn from Diathermy

[edit]

I found this page on Google that shows a severe burn from Diathermy, it includes a picture. The article says it's the "first case of severe burn of penis secondary to excessive short wave diathermy." Should it be added? http://www.asiaandro.com/1008-682X/inpress/0520.htm http://www.asiaandro.com/1008-682X/inpress/0520f1.jpg . Tnek46 21:32, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Automatic Redirection from Deep heat

[edit]

Considering that Deep Heat is also terms used for other products, "Deep heat" either should not redirect here but should redirect into the disambiguation page (at "Deep Heat"), or that this page should itself have a link the the disambiguation page; a single capitalization should not be sufficient cause to differenciate between the two terms. The disambuation page itself should also have a link to this page. Psaakyrn (talk) 06:23, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Diathermy, diathermancy and dielectric heating

[edit]
  • These three articles sould be separated, since they are not sinonymous:
    • Diathermy is the method using heat for therapeutical purposes.
    • Diathermancy is the capability of some fluids to receive solar radiation without being heated: i. e., air in the atmosphere. On the contrary, water in big rivers and oceans is heated by solar radiation. (see article on diathermancy in spanish: es:diatermancia).
    • Dielectric heating is already explained in the article with this very name.--Fev (talk) 19:20, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Diathermia stub into this article?

[edit]

Diathermia is a stub that covers the same subject as this article. It should be merged here. A merger tag has been on it since August 2013. --ChetvornoTALK 03:48, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No reference given for applications in Physioteraphy

[edit]

The only reference quoted in relation to Physical therapy is a meta analysis of old and mainly Italian studies, attempt to explain the underlying mechanisms but does not include any reference to blinded trials on the efficacy.
