Fair use rationale for Image:Discovery Channel.gif

[edit]

Image:Discovery Channel.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

HD section

[edit]

At the beggining, it seems to be a bit advertisment-ish as it states 'It features the best in science and technology, nature and adventure programming all in true HD.' Any suggestions? Ilikepie2221 (talk) 21:25, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Destroyed in Seconds

[edit]

Destroyed in Seconds isn't Canadian-produced; it says so right on the actual article that it's made in the US. Any objections? Garfield1675 (talk) 07:15, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Story

How can I get my story on the ID channel? Margarita centeno (talk) 01:03, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Requested move 12 December 2024

[edit]

Discovery Channel (Canadian TV channel)Discovery Channel (1994 Canadian TV channel) – On 1 January 2025, this will no longer be the Canadian Discovery Channel, instead, a new different channel will be stood up and become the Canadian Discovery, since the license for "Discovery" group was transferred to a different licensee, and BellGlobeMedia will lose the right to the name (hence it being replaced by USA Network Canada, with a different programming of content, Discovery shows moving to the new Discovery.) This current particular network was stood up on 31 December 1994. -- 65.92.246.77 (talk) 04:40, 12 December 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). 65.92.246.77 (talk) 21:40, 12 December 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. ~🌀 Ampil 💬 / 📝 08:00, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Copied from RMTR speedy move request

Thank you for catching this. I agree that the article should be moved. However, I think "1994 Canadian TV channel" implies that the channel only existed in 1994, when the channel actually existed for almost 30 years. I think this should be handled by a requested move where editors can discuss various alternative titles and pick the best one. Toadspike [Talk] 09:51, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Toadspike: It is exactly how we name other articles, like wars (War of 1812 lasted several years), TV shows (Dallas (1978 TV series) lasted over a decade), ships lasting many years (HMS Enterprise (1774) lasted decades), etc, use the year of first launch. Even people use this (Jim Jones (American football, born 1935) died 1982). It is the CONSISTENT way to disambiguate it. -- 65.92.246.77 (talk) 20:17, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@65.92.246.77 You are correct that we often use starting years as disambiguators for other subjects. However, looking at the Cable television channels in Canada and Defunct cable television channels in Canada, I do not see any other TV channel disambiguated in this way. In defunct US television stations, I only found WBKI-TV (1983–2017), among a variety of other disambiguators. Perhaps Discovery Channel (1994–2024 Canadian TV channel) is okay? Quite long, though.
I don't mean to be a jerk, I genuinely do not think this is as CONSISTENT as you think it is. If you disagree, feel free to open an RM. Toadspike [Talk] 20:51, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
