Incorrect Team name

[edit]

The name here is Garmin-sharp, however on the official website is it shows as Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda. Does this need to be corrected?

The situation is the same as for RadioShack-Nissan-Trek. The officlal UCI name can only include two sponsors. [1] --Racklever (talk) 10:00, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)At a very early stage of the history of an entity, it is hard to know what will become common use. G-S-B is used by the organisation, but the UCI only allow 2 sponsors' names to appear as the official names of the sheets, so G-S cannot be said to be an incorrect team name. G-S-B/Slimstream's website says, "The official UCI-registered name of the team will be Garmin-Sharp (GRS), just in time for start of 2012 Tour de France. Barracuda Networks will continue as an important co-title sponsor, and team materials and the website will refer to the team as Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda."
Early impressions are that the binomial has been adopted in the cycling press, and the Barracuda bit is largely dropped. A similar situation exists with RadioShack-Nissan Trek, but the third name there has more acceptance (though looking at this has made me wonder about the location of that article).
Time will tell, and I have set up a redirect from G-B-S as that ought to be a valid search, but the present location seems to me to be far more likely to become the established commonname. Kevin McE (talk) 10:11, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for clearing all that up, with these all these name extensions happening now, it's all beginning to look messy. XyZAn (talk) 12:42, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
