Comment

[edit]

The rise of Ecuador's football team goes back to the Copa America in Brasil 1989. Dussan Draskovic was the coach that led to Ecuador's first win over Uruguay in an official tournament (1-0) and later a tie with then World Champions Argentina (0-0) with Ecuador missing a penalty kick.

Today Ecuador has classified for its second World Cup and will play in Group A with the home country Germany, Poland, and Costa Rica.

Colours

[edit]

Please could someone fix the kit colours, which don't show up correctly in IE? ChrisTheDude 14:51, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i have a question

[edit]

didn't ecuador in one year won a tounament called the kirin cup early this millenium? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.3.22.130 (talk) 14:00, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent new section

[edit]

The recently started List of notable Ecuadorians playing internationally seems to be lacking in encyclopaedic qualitiies. It only includes players currently overseas, it has no clear threshold of what makes them "notable", and it has only tangential relevance to the subject matter of the article. It might be worth creating a category Ecuadorian expatriate footballers: there is plenty of precedent for such a thing, but the present section does not, IMHO, enhance the article. Kevin McE (talk) 16:15, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

5 1/2 weeks on, nobody has tried to justify the relevance of the section, so I'm deleting it. If the players are part of the current squad, their club status is already listed; if they are not, the current club of non-internationals is irrelevant to the article. Kevin McE (talk) 20:08, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Famous past players criteria

[edit]

This section is for establishing criteria for listing players in the Famous past players section. Any or more criteria should be met before inclusion.

  • Statistical leader (high number of goals, caps, etc)
  • Known for quality of play (subjective criteria, but worthy nonetheless)
  • High recognition in Ecuador, and abroad

More criteria can be added, but for now, these should be a starting point for inclusion.

In my opinion, the following should definitely be on the list: Aguinaga, Carabali, Delgado, Espinoza, Hurtado, Raffo, Spencer, Tenorio. The rest are questionable.

Digirami (talk) 19:00, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The recognition, in WP:Reliable Sources, that you suggest as a third criterion should go some of the way to getting around the problems of your second criterion, which I cannot support because of the subjectivity that you admit. However, how much press recognition is enough? Well done for trying to get this sorted though. Kevin McE (talk) 20:23, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent results section

[edit]

As for the recent results section, how recent is recent? Should there be a time frame to call a results recent, or should it just be a set number of matches? Matches cannot be continuously added and removed without stating what stays and what goes. I say: one year or 10 matches, which ever comes first (sorta like a warranty). Digirami (talk) 21:11, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The recent result section is growing to big, I would like to propose a change, I hope to get some feedback, but if none one replies I will implement the change.

This is my propose:

Please leave a feedback if you like it or not or on how to make this section better. Thanks--Bocafan76 (talk) 00:58, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am implementing the propose changes, since no one has seems to oppose or cares to discuss this changes. --Bocafan76 (talk) 19:35, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Order of recent call ups section

[edit]

Pathetic, both of you. You have both breached 3RR at least twice over this matter, with no attempt on the part of either of you to discuss either here or on your talk pages. One more change in regard to this with out sensible discussion and I shall send the case to ANI. And all over such a pathetic issue of minuscule relevance to any reader.

There is no clear guideline that I have been able to find elsewhere to say that either of you are proven right or wrong by consensus or precedent in discussion.

To make a small survey of national team articles, I have looked at the teams that are listed 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 12th, 14th and 16th in this template (Ecuador were 10th). Thus they are high to mid-range in their seniority, reasonably regularly edited, with a good geographical and linguistic spread, and will be on a fairly large number of watchlists. At the point of beginning this survey of practice, I have no idea what I will find.

  • France: position, then date (most recent first), then apparently random (has edits by an IP also beginning 187.131 with similar intervention into club names as the protagonist here)
  • Portugal: position, then apparently random, close to being date (most recent first), no obvious use of alphabetical order. An IP also beginning 187.131 has made interventions in this list.
  • Brazil:position, then date (most recent first), then apparently random (although informal names make relevant determination of alphabetical sorting unclear)
  • Ukraine:position, then date (most recent first), then apparently random
  • Mexico:position, then date (most recent first), then apparently random
  • Spain:position, then date (most recent first), then apparently random
  • Switzerland: position, then apparently random.

Thus it would appear that there is a tacit convention for date of last call up to take precedence. This being the case, it would seem incumbent on Dirigami to provide persuasive argument for his point of view, which is out of step with other nft articles according to this brief survey. However, the unregistered editor is no less deserving of reprimand for edit-warring and refusing to discuss changes to a long standing status quo on the page. Bocafan76's undiscussed change of the remmed out instruction for the order of the list, not flagged up in the editnote, was singularly unhelpful. Having said that, Dirigami's addition of the remmed out note was equally unilateral and unannounced. Kevin McE (talk) 10:45, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I have already provided an argument for my stance in the WT:Footy... but I guess it feel on deaf ears (or blind eyes in this case). I looked at those articles and their sorting order makes no sense to me. You're right in that most are by position then date. But it is not random after that. It is then sorted by caps, with the highest first. This is the case in France, Brazil, Ukraine (who doesn't even use the template... they should), and Mexico. That ordering seems to be the work of IP whom I'm warring with. For a list of players, there is decreasing emphasize on the players. But what I tried to do by ordering it by position then name is provide some level of similarity between the Current Squad and Recent Call-ups sections since the Current Squad is ordered by position then name when there is no squad numbers (at which point it should be ordered by squad number, like in club articles). That's why I have has the RCU section is organized by positions, then name. If it was really about ordering by the last call-up, that section would be ordered by that method, regardless of position. It is not. Digirami (talk) 16:29, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I looked for that discussion, which I started, in the archives of WT:Footy, and couldn't find it. Can you justify the accusation that the ordering is "the work of IP whom I'm warring with"? I searched the last 500 entries in the history of each of those articles with the first 6 digits of his number, and reported any significant activity, none of which matches his number exactly. I hadn't noticed the ordering by caps, which certainly seems to me to be counterintuitive (and is not accurately followed in the case of Ukraine). Nevertheless, if you have a strong opinion that your preferred option (which has a sound logic, as does the alternative) should be that generally used, then you should suggest such a general change at WT:FOOTY, and be prepared to edit a fair few of them yourself to get the principle a bit of momentum behind the attempt at consistency. Personally, I wouldn't be bothered for the sake of a minor ordering issue in short lists, where scan reading will locate any name very rapidly anyway. But editwarring here will achieve nothing, and doesn't reflect well on someone who I have otherwise always encountered as a responsible and reliable editor. Kits

I would like to update the kits for the Ecuador national team. Ecuador first international match and captain

[edit]

Ecuador's first international match was a 1–1 draw with Bolivia, not a 2–1 win as it states. Also, Ecuador's captain has been Gabriel Achilier since Hernan Gomez arrived as coach.

Fixtures and photos and players

[edit]

Please get rid of the 2016 and 2017 fixtures. It's 2019, they are unnecessary. Also, Ecuador has upcoming friendlies with Peru (Peru being the home team), at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, United States on 5 September and with Bolivia (Ecuador being the home team) at Alejandro Serrano Aguilar Stadium in Cueneca, Ecuador on 10 September. I also read on the talk page that the article needs photos. There are plenty on Wikimedia Commons, including Ecuador's 1983 Copa América match against Argentina. Ecuador have already announced their players for September friendlies as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:8C:C201:A2CF:E570:AA23:E948:A0E1 (talk) 19:25, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Edit requests need to be very specific so that any passing editor who's unfamiliar with the article can implement them. The thing about the fixtures might be reasonable, but I'm hesitant to just remove content like that. Any addition of information must be accompanied by a reliable source. As far as images, if you want some added, especially if they're on commons, then tell us which, and where in the article they should go. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 22:38, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Both Peru and Ecuador have confirmed the friendly on their respective Twitter pages, but this is from Google's 2019 International Friendlies:

This is ridiculous

[edit]

I keep asking for semi-protected editing on this page and none of you are helpful. Let me be specific as I can possibly be so someone reads this and doesn't give me BS. 1. REMOVE THE 2016 AND 2017 FIXTURES: It is 2019, any Wikipedian that focuses on football articles would know that after a year, fixtures would be removed. Check any other national football team article. 2. ECUADOR HAS UPCOMING FRIENDLIES: Ecuador have upcoming friendlies with Peru and Bolivia on 5 and 10 September respectively. Do not tell me you need a source. Quit being lazy and just look it up yourself. If you want me to be so specific as humanely possible then fine. Peru v Ecuador, 5 September 2019, Harrison, United States, Red Bull Arena. Ecuador v Bolivia, 10 September 2019, Cuenca, Ecuador, Estadio Alejandro Serrano Aguilar. 3. ECUADOR HAVE ANNOUNCED THEIR PLAYERS FOR SEPTEMBER FRIENDLIES AND NO ONE CARES: Ecuador announced their players on 20 August 2019 and its been four days since they were announced and again, nobody bothers to edit that. I know someone is going to ask me to be VERY SPECIFIC so here are the called up players.

Goalkeepers; Pedro Ortiz, Johan Padilla, Brian Heras.

Defenders: Marcos López, Jhon Espinoza, Dario Aimar, Xavier Arrega, Diego Palacios, Cristian Ramírez, Jackson Porozo, Félix Torres.

Midfielders: José Cifuentes, Fernando Gaibor, Jhegson Méndez, Junior Sornoza, Alexander Alvarado, Romario Ibarra, Gonzalo Plata, Jonathan Borja, Erick Castillo, Julio Johan.

Forwards: Brayan Angulo, Leonardo Campana, Enner Valencia.

This is in the order that the Ecuadorian Football Federation announced it in. Of course, you would have to order the players by caps and goals. And please, for God's sake, EDIT IT.
