Does this make sense?

[edit]

"The Act of Parliament for building the railway received its Royal Assent in 1838 which was open on 28 July 1863. Services started between Glasgow Queen Street and Haymarket on 21 February 1842."

I don't know what this is intended to convey. Afterbrunel (talk) 20:17, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted "which was open on 28 July 1863" for the time being. Davidships (talk) 13:43, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

This article could be expanded considerably, particularly the "history" section & more references could be added.

In particular, it could be expanded to include:

  • Fairly early Scottish railway: 1838 Incorporation.
  • pre-dates Caledonian link via Carstairs; & rivally with Caledonian railway.
  • Queen St. station built in a former quarry.
  • the notorious Cowlairs incline, originally rope operated.
Possibly future proposals for electrification.
