I will add more info and links when I get time. Ms. Cooke was trained in classical music and opera but the Lord called her to sing gospel after graduation from college. Many of her songs are reminiscent of her father's sermons - they have a sermonette feel. Madam Cooke at one time owned a hotel in Augusta, Georgia, she ran with her daughter, which was used by touring gospel singers. 25,000 people attended her funeral. An unusual event occurred at her death: her records sales increased dramatically -- people realized she would not be making any more records and bought every one they could find. She was under contract to Nashboro at that time but had recorded 78's and 45 rpms on several other labels, which were out of print at the time of her death. I will gather significant other biographical information and internet links and add them when I am able to, however, if you know how to use the internet, you can possibly find them yourself. There's a nice newspaper article on her funeral also with more bio info. She is one of the most important gospel singers but died before Afro-Americans were allowed wide media exposure and a lot of people don't know about her today. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.76.210.2 (talk) 23:49, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
