The article is rewritten at Eliyahu_Rips/temp.

It contains one fact that might be hard to believe without evidence (Rips 1969 attempt of self-immolation). Here are two sources which confirm that it's real [1], [2]. Andris 02:54, May 23, 2004 (UTC)

Here is another one, a renown Russian samizdat paper XTC, 1969: [3]. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Beil (talkcontribs) 23:34, 27 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

story of "dimension subgroup conjecture"

[edit]

Why not add the amazing story about how he disproved the "dimension subgroup conjecture" using a pencil and a piece of toilet-paper while incarnated? source —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.138.179.244 (talk) 20:18, 10 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

This article is slanted too much in one direction

[edit]

I ran a Google Scholar search on E. Rips. I hit 37 math articles, and 4 arts/humanities articles. The math articles, which do not refer to the "Torah codes", have about 300 citations, all together. The "torah code" articles (classified as arts/humanities) have 7 citations. Need I say more? This article needs to be revised substantially to comply with NPOV. Clearly 300 is much greater than 7. Rips is a very famous mathematician. This fame is an integral part of why his support for the Bible codes research was so critical in influencing early opinion. I'm not familiar with his work, but I have some ideas on what he is famous for. So I can add some things. --C S (Talk) 19:42, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ig Nobel Prize winners | Erdős number 3 | Orthodox Jews

[edit]

Have we any source for these categories? I am tempted to remove them, just because nothing in the article actually indicates that he is all three. -- Y not? 13:57, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating

This article was automatically assessed because at least one article was rated and this bot brought all the other ratings up to at least that level. BetacommandBot 11:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Code POV

[edit]

Most mathematicians probably think the Bible Code is a hoax. However, in this article, the refutations are qualified with the blanket statement that their methods are "strongly questioned". Also, all three of the in-line references are from pro-code authors. The section ends with the simple paragraph that Rips converted from atheism to Judaism, implying that it was an effect of the Code. This is an obvious case of POV. --68.160.204.144 (talk) 12:15, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"World class"

[edit]

lolwut

This means what exactly? I wasn't aware that mathematics was some sort of worldwide sport or competition. Nevermind this atrocious, nonsensical sentence: "Eliyahu Rips, with a spontaneous very humble personality, is one of the leading mathematicians of the World, specialist in the micro-field of group theory, devoting too much of his time researching codes in the Torah." Seriously WTF, how is this on wikipedia? 68.227.163.169 (talk) 13:21, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unacceptable edits

[edit]

The recent edits of Xelba.davi violate the rules in multiple ways. In the following my comments are in [red].

known by the popular expression of [bad English] 'Bible Code' or 'Bible Codes' [silly to have both singular and plural], that are 'Equal-distance [no source for this unusual name] (or Equidistant) Letter Sequences' about contemporany events [lots of non-contemporary events claimed too] Secret Codes In The Bible And The Torah? Investigators YES! KMPH - Fox 26, [source of dubious reliability, reads like an advertisement] that appears [should be plural] in the original text [unsourced claim, most scholars believe the original text is lost] of the 3300 year old [don't state a religious myth as fact] hebrew written [bad English] Torah - the "Five Books of Moses".[1]
While some critic voices continue to debate [bad English] the validity of the Torah Codes [While a documentary film might possibly satisfy WP:RS, an authorless blurb about a documentary film certainly does not.] Despite having impeccable academic reputation and contrary to all the scientific evidence [blatant violation of WP:NPOV] Mr. Rips is accused of being biased in his research, since he is an Orthodox Jew.[an outrageous claim of antisemitism of his critics!] Yet even more severe criticism he has received [bad English] from Jewish religious circles for allegedly taking unacceptable liberties in his work with the sacred text of Torah. Documentary Eliyahu Rips: The Burning Bush. Film Angels Studio], new developments in the testing of matrixes as well as the use of apriori words, by the scientific team of the Torah Codes leaded by Eliyahu Rips, Robert Haralick and rabbi Matityahu Glazerson [2], have completely revolutionized [unsourced claim, their own website is not a permissible source for this] the approach of finding codes in the Torah, in the present (year of 2012), that produced many important findings.New developments in the Torah Codes research [unreliable source, irrelevant to the topic of this page]
The 'Torah Codes' is a contemporary standart term for a very old concept... [...and so on for two paragraphs of personal essay on the Torah codes, asserting that they are real, that the Torah was written by God, etc etc, all in unencyclopaedic language and based on poor sources. This is not an article about the codes, nor is it a place for anyone to post their private thoughts on any topic, nor to support or condemn any theories. None of these paragarphs are permitted, refer to [[WP:V], WP:NOR, WP:NPOV ]

The article about Eliyahu Rips and the Codes of the Torah is neutral and objective. It is true and encyclopedic. Does not violate the parameters of Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xelba.davi (talkcontribs) 09:36, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • No. The added material was unreliably sourced, and much of it did not directly pertain to the subject. This is the biography of a living person (see WP:BLP) and thus it needs to be held to a higher standard than a regular article when it comes to sourcing. Drmies (talk) 03:33, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think you must put the last version by Xelba.davi, that is real and true. This one is incomplete and obsolete. The version of Xelba.davi was true, clear and complete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.81.194.12 (talk) 18:31, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
