Two queries
[edit]- [1] - This gives him a knighthood - surely not?
* [2] - and this suggests he did work at Pencoed Castle, including a new build. Worth a mention? Now in. KJP1 (talk) 17:08, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- (1) Not that I'm aware of - it's probably an error.
- ... but.... how does a photo of an anonymous driveway give any insight into Francis? Can we remove it, please? Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:40, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- We will have to disagree on that one. It’s his drive, and a glimpse of his house, which he built for himself! And which appears to still be home to a descendant, according to Companies House, [3]. But no big deal. I think the coverage of Francis on Wikipedia is probably the most extensive anywhere. KJP1 (talk) 09:02, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
Mathern Palace
[edit]It seems pretty unlikely that Francis cooperated with Tipping on any design features at Mathern Palace, given that Francis was only 12 years old at the end of the 1890s. I know what the source appears to say, but..... Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:59, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Ghmyrtle - Hum, a good point. 12/13 does seem rather young for an architect. I’ve got a few other bits on Mathern, let me see what they say. KJP1 (talk) 18:47, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Ghmyrtle - I think you must be right, and Cadw wrong. It wouldn't be the first time! Neither Newman nor Gerrish suggests Francis was involved at Mathern. Have added a footnote. Interestingly, the Mathern Palace article suggests Tipping bought the palace from Francis' father. I must check my Bradney, which is given as the cite. KJP1 (talk) 10:55, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I may have put that in - it's on p.64 of Bradney's Caldicot Part 1. There are many more details about Mathern Palace in Bradney, which may be worth including in that article. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:59, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
