Redirection

[edit]

It seems that ETA refers to the article on Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, while eta is a redirect to this page. Since ETA is the primary topic, therefore making this ETA (disambiguation), it seems eta should also redirect to ETA, not to the disambiguation page. Any objections? -- Natalya 11:37, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Or would it make more sense for Eta/eta in word case to redirect to the word, Eta (letter), or to move Eta (letter) to Eta? Michael Z. 2006-04-03 14:58 Z
This more confusing then I thought! You bring up a good point - Eta (letter) is another common use. It's hard, though, because all the combinations should be on the same page, and it doesn't seem very good style to have one combination redirect to one page, and another combination redirect to another page. The only easy option I could see would be to have ETA be renamed "Euskadi Ta Askatasuna" (and not have that be a redirect anymore), and then make ETA (disambiguation) be moved to "ETA", therefore making any search for "eta" (or any of the capitalized combinations) go to the disambiguation page "ETA". I don't know how well that would go over at the current ETA article, especially because I don't think many people call the group anything but "ETA". -- Natalya 16:04, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that ETA is by far the most common name for the organization, and expanding the abbreviation in the article title may or may not be wise, since it is a foreign name, little-used in English.
I wouldn't have a problem with the differently-capitalized versions redirecting to different articles, since each article would have a clear disambiguation link to the disambiguation page at the top. The question is whether there is a clear primary article to link to.
The disambiguation page should not be split into two, however. In many cases it may not be clear to someone whether they are looking for E.T.A. or eta, so it's best to keep all the disambiguation links together. Michael Z. 2006-04-03 16:53 Z
I agree. Currently, "ETA" redirects to the Basque organization, and "eta" redirects to the disambiguation page. Eta (letter) does seem to be the most common use of the lowercase "eta", so we could have "eta" redirect to Eta (letter), and then place a disambiguation link on it too. If we did that, I don't think there would be one primary article for this page, and it could just stand as it is. -- Natalya 11:16, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with that is that the way Wikipedia automatically transforms the first letter into a capital, it's never "eta", it's "Eta", which is just as likely to mean the Basque group as the letter. - Jmabel | Talk 23:56, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A source of additional acronyms should be added to this page: ETA - What does ETA stand for? Acronyms and abbreviations by the Free Online Dictionary. ETA LaoziSailor 20:04, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable

Is Elektrosektionens Teletekniska Avdelning, currently in the list, really notable enough to be mentioned? - Jmabel | Talk 02:46, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Terrorist

[edit]

Group named ETA is designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the State Department of the United States. So you must put that it is a terrorist group. 81.39.203.197 (talk) 09:45, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ETA in justice system? - foreigners don't understand

[edit]

Hi, what is ETA in the justice system, examples from http://www.courtstreetusa.com/:

1. Provide accurate ETA's

2. Notify us immediately if you can't meet an ETA already provided

Is this "Employment and Training Administration" or what as it's written here http://www.doleta.gov/grants/2012grants.cfm? It seems there is something missing in Wikipedia.

Well, foreigners will never come to the "U.S.A." any more when they have the Obama FEMA concentration camps for mass killings...

Michael Palomino, Oct. 24, 2014

From that context I'd guess Estimated time of arrival. Valenciano (talk) 12:10, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation of "Edited To Add"

[edit]

This edit removed the following from the article just as I was about to move it here for discussion:

 • On online boards or forums where posts and comments can be edited, edited content is often separate from the original body of post/comment, and preceded by an "ETA", which, in this context, means "Edited To Add". If edited content is not an addendum, an "ETA" might precede a TL;DR of what the edit was.

I'm OK with a simple removal, but my thoughts were: (1) the above was unsupported (and, by guidelines, unsupportable here); {2} however, it seems to add useful information; (3) perhaps it could be worked into a content article (e.g., Blog), supported there, and wikilinked from here; (4) the wikilink to the WP project page didn't belong in there.
