Comment from 2006

[edit]

So, by retaining its adjustable rate mortgage portfolio, how much risk is Golden West Financial subject to in the event of borrowers defaulting on mortgages as interest rates rise? If this happens, are deposits at its subsidiary, World Savings, at risk? Both above and below FDIC insured amounts (i.e. is the US government a risk to default on its FDIC obligations?) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.117.232.33 (talkcontribs) 21:30, 3 January 2006

None really, the property is almost always worth more than the loan. In the last 6 years, losses have been 0 according to Herb Sandler. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.152.236.164 (talkcontribs) 11:12, 27 January 2007

Original research

[edit]

The entire "Business Model" section of this article appears to be original research. See WP:OR for more info about what qualifies as original research.

I propose:

  1. that the "Business Model" section be deleted.
  2. that the remainder of the article be merged into Wachovia#Golden West Financial with citations.

I will proceed with these changes within two weeks, depending on any feedback or the addition of verifiable references.

Completed.

Article reopened

[edit]

Reopened the article due to current focus on Golden West Financial, and it's portfolio of 122$ billion worth of Adjustable Rate Mortgage as one of the reasons contributing to the 2008 US financial crisis and the collapse of Wachovia Bank. Hobartimus (talk) 12:40, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article should be kept of course, but without unproven and therefore groundless accusations expressed by wording like "ruthless" ec. The web links referred to are dead ends.—Preceding unsigned comment added by F4fzapata (talkcontribs) 15:46, 30 October 2008
