Great Plains
[edit]The 1888 Blizzard was also a major storm on the Great Plains, which isn't made clear in this article. Also, the book THE LONG WINTER by Laura Ingalls Wilder was not about the 1888 storm, but about the 1881 winter... Trish Lewis 07:01, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
- You are quite correct about The Long Winter. Indeed, I reached the same conclusion before reading your comment here. I will remove that reference from the text of the article. I'd suggest that you locate some references about the effects of this storm in the Midwest, and feel free to add that content. --DavidK93 18:58, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
The Plains blizzard of 1888 was a completely different storm, occurring in January 1888. -24.98.113.79 03:46, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Explanation of "copypaste" tag
[edit]This tag was chosen due to the apparent lack of a "derivative work" tag. Granted, this is not a direct copy - the sentences have been reordered and occasionally a word has been changed; however, many phrases have been lifted verbatim directly from the source. This is what is known as a derivative work.
I believe the introduction of this article to be ok; that is why I have tagged the two sections instead of the whole article.
If a different tag should have been used then by all means correct me. Thank you,

- These two paragraphs have been in the article for at least a year or two. Whoever introduced them has probably moved on long since. Please feel free to copyedit for a less "derivative" outcome. If you'd like I will then try to help smooth and fine tune the results, and I'm sure others are also willing to pitch in. Hertz1888 (talk) 06:47, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Pic of NYC
[edit]I kind of like the picture of NYC with the overhead wires exposed for 1888, showing how electrified the city was. BUT, horse manure generally piled up at about the same rate as the snowfall shown, all year round. The actual picture may have been made early in the blizzard or maybe after a light snowfall! :) Student7 (talk) 01:38, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
