Reinstating Criticism text

[edit]

In July 2022 user @ApricotFoot removed a large amount of content under the Criticism section of this article, citing concerns about bias, because of the contributing editor’s involvement in anti-greyhound racing movements. They did not mentioning any specific issues with the text that was removed. As mentioned in Avoiding_bias anyone editing this page will have an interest in the topic in one way or another - this does not bar them from contributing. Specifically, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/FAQ#Lack_of_neutrality_as_an_excuse_to_delete specifies that “The NPOV policy does forbid the inclusion of editorial bias, but does not forbid properly sourced bias.”

The controversies in this sport are well documented. Unless users can show that the text removed was incorrectly cited or from unreliable sources they do not detract from Wikipedia’s neutral POV. I propose reinstating the text, minus any specific bias/unreferenced claims that are identified.

Greyhound Racing NZ has been the subject of further reports of significance since (e.g. the 2023 RIB report, initiated by then-Minister for Racing Kieran McAnulty), and prior developments are required to paint a accurate picture of political movement and national discourse regarding the sport. Reasons for the above

[edit]

In response to the point made above by user @Aerozol, the User PJBAllende, on his talk page clearly states that he is the Director of Advocacy and Research for greyhound protection nonprofit GREY2K USA Worldwide. GREY2K is a well documented anti-greyhound racing organisation who have a mission statement to end greyhound racing. Wikipedia's own rules state "COI editors are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly, and can propose changes on article talk pages instead".

Additionally, the edits that were made on the article page about history from 1948 to the present day needs to be reflective to the relevant history sections and the edits clearly constitute a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. ApricotFoot (talk) 08:44, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As no specific issues have been identified within the text or sources, just COI, I will rewrite this section using @PJBAllende’s text as a basis, adjusting as necessary. Aerozol (talk) 05:13, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article NPOV

[edit]

The article now contains three times as much information in the criticism section (spanning NINE years from 2013 to 2022) than there is in the entire article, which spans from 75 years from 1948 to present. Therefore I am adding a NOPV notice to the page. ApricotFoot (talk) 07:50, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there has been a lot of criticism and government reports in those nine years - can you specify what information specifically is biased?
You have been given plenty of opportunity here to clarify issues you have with the content, it's not good enough to just stick NOPV on content that you personally do not like. Aerozol (talk) 02:17, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article undue weight

[edit]

The article still retains undue weight. The criticism section (spanning just 10 years of a subject that covers 120 years) still represents about half of the article and should be no more than one tenth based on that. Additionally it is just a list of newspaper story releases and is not encyclopaedic, going against Wikipedia's values. ApricotFoot (talk) 08:30, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
