My edits

@Chipmunkdavis Why are you reverting the map, my removal of unsourced paragraphs, and the removal of the disputed islands categories when the archipelago is no longer disputed since the court of arbitration's decision? Abo Yemen 10:02, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The court of arbitration explicitly divided the archipelago. It's in the very first paragraph of the lead. CMD (talk) 10:05, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok cool I know that and I've kept the Eritian name. What about the other stuff? Abo Yemen 10:06, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What is the other stuff? CMD (talk) 10:09, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The image and the unsourced paragraphs. Did you even see what were you reverting?? Abo Yemen 10:10, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. I noted at the time that one of the supposedly unsourced paragraphs had a source. CMD (talk) 10:16, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
try opening that "source" please Abo Yemen 10:16, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please see the bolded sentence in the lead of Wikipedia:Link rot. CMD (talk) 10:18, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
well how about just keeping that sentence then? instead of undoing everything i did? Abo Yemen 10:19, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because the everything that was done and re-reverted was a bundle of edits included inaccurate statements about sourcing and about sovereignty. Once reverted, the case should have been made for the various edits here. So far two explanations have been given. The first was that some text was unsourced, when it was not. The second was that the archipelago is not longer disputed, which is true, but that assumes the categories are present tense and cannot include historical events. This doesn't seem to be covered in the category documentation, but looking through the tree it does seem mostly current, so I have restored their removal here. CMD (talk) 10:26, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've done some digging into the other unsourced paragraph and it seemed to contradict the sources I found. I've replaced with some new information from one of those sources. CMD (talk) 10:46, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks. What about the image? A satellite image is way more better than a drawing right? Abo Yemen 10:56, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The satellite image seems very tightly cropped, I would have to look a bit more closely but it may only show the Zuqar-Hanish group rather than the whole archipelago. CMD (talk) 17:08, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What's the point of showing the red sea in the bg? The satellite image is more accurate than the drawing Abo Yemen 17:12, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A wider image does not give a false impression of the spread of the islands in question, which the tribunal divided into at least five separate groups. See for example this map from a rather excited Yemeni news article at the time of the tribunal, which shows from what I can figure, the Mohabbakah
islands, the Haycock Islands, the South West Rocks, and the Zuqar-Hanish group. (It does not include Jabal al-Tayr and the Zubayr group, although they seem more distinct geographically.) CMD (talk) 17:34, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
is it not possible for us to use the map from the link that you used? or maybe request someone from the map workshop to make a map of the islands using the source? Abo Yemen 17:40, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We can't use the map I linked, but there would be no issue requesting a map from the workshop. The tribunal ruling has a lot of the specific coordinates. CMD (talk) 17:44, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
you mean this? Abo Yemen 17:48, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is useful for the maritime boundary, but to show the islands something more like the first map here would be needed. I suppose the map could show the maritime boundary too. CMD (talk) 17:54, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
