Critical reaction

[edit]

Full of weasel words and not one link to any of these 'mixed' reviews! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.188.40.144 (talk) 14:33, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recurring Characters

[edit]

Aren't some of these one off characters? Talskiddy

Radio Times mentions "the Clean Chavs", presumably Ashley and his pregnant wife. RT is owned by BBC, the company which broadcasts the program. Is this reliable enough to edit their entry in the recurring characters table? The BBC webpage referenced in the article has no mention of them, and a Google search only brings back two results, both of which are from RT's website. 81.159.192.174 14:35, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WHAT ABOUT THE LECCY SPONGERS SKETCH!!!!

"Controversy" section

[edit]

I've deleted this, since unless the supposed threat of prosecution comes to anything, a manufactured "controversy" in a country the programme isn't aimed and no doubt hasn't been transmitted in, isn't that notable. The sketch (as did previous ones) also takes the piss out of Geordies, but we don't see the people of Newcastle-upon-Tyne complaining. On top of that, YouTube links are a no-no here. Racist Discrimination for Filipina Maid

[edit]

you know what guys, this is part of the controversy surrounding a racist discrimination on a Filipina maid showing to a brit a sex moves... This is REALLY DISGUSTING!!! Jbr999 (talk)

I think this needs explaining for the benefit of people who live outside the UK and therefore don't get the context. The sketch is a satire on the supercilious attitude of some middle-class southerners towards the north of England and its people, hence the reason why the family have a northerner as a "pet". Such people - the snooty southerners, that is - frequently live in big houses and have domestic workers from other countries working for them, often at or below the minimum wage. The point of the sketch is not to poke fun at the Filipina maid but rather to satirise the way her employers treat her (and Clive the Geordie) as sub-human. It seems the subtlety of the humour is lost on some people. I wonder why we haven't heard from the American ambassador about Pam and Ronald, or the South African ambassador about Pik, or the Polish ambassador about Café Polski, etc., etc., etc. Nick Cooper (talk) 16:12, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
True. Although according to today's Guardian the BBC have received 41 complaints about the kitten-stamping thing in one of the Dragon's Den sketches. Evidently some cat lovers have no sense of humour either. MFlet1 (talk) 07:20, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Show has ended

[edit]

I believe the show has ended as the BBC have 'mothballed' the official site, which is usually an indication that the show is not coming back. Can someone change the dates section to echo this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.15.87.56 (talk) 02:15, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Music error

[edit]

The article says that the "I saw you coming" section uses a cover of Massive Attack's "Man Next Door", however it is actually a cover or John Holt's "I've Got To Get Away", which Massive Attack also covered. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.131.23.232 (talk) 22:52, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's Dennis Brown's cover (officially entitled "Man Next Door"), which I believe is from the late 1970s. If I remember correctly, "I've Got To Get Away" was written by Holt (cribbing a little from Garnet Mimms's "A Quiet Place") but was recorded and released as a Paragons single on Treasure Isle in the late 1960s. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Camrock (talkcontribs) 05:09, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, yeah we're the Beatles!

[edit]

Hi - does anyone know who plays "Paul" and "Ringo" in "The Beatles 50 years On" sketches..?

"Stereotypical"

[edit]

This word is used many times in the article and is surely rather POV.

Much comedy is, by it's nature, and historically, based on stereotypes or archetypes, and I think that hammering it home in every instance is tantamount to making a comment on the material itself. Hardylane (talk) 05:38, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Missing characters

[edit]

I think Very Important Man is missing and the Gypsy Curse women. What about the Russian which Paul does, i'm not sure if that was a one off or not. 07:42, 4 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.109.21.214 (talk)
