The only source for this band being labelled as NSBM is the review on Sputnik, which states that:
"Lyrically, Hate Forest fall in line with the rest of the National Socialist Black Metal crowd that don't see the irony of championing Nazi-ism in a former Soviet satellite state. Meaning that buried in the belches of Roman Saenko are tales of old Slavic lore cast to display Aryan pride, wrapped around bullshit Nietzsche influenced ideals of supremacy and power, but you can't understand anything that he's saying in the first place so those that are easily offended can still give Purity a listen."
Adam clearly writes that he cannot understand what he is actually singing about. As far as I know there are no lyrics known for any Hate Forest song, so there are only the album names and song titles to try and distinguish any lyrical themes from. I think it is a bit of an overreach to call it NSBM without a source that actually undestands the lyrics, as those are the only thing that makes the difference, especially in the Black Metal scene where it is not uncommon to talk about subjects which are normally "taboo", Or is Immortal's "Pure Holocaust" NSBM as well, just because of the title?
I must concur. Call it my bias for piquing my curiosity, but I've done much research on whether Hate Forest is truly NSBM or not. I haven't found anything definitive about the band or their politics, and while they're definitely associated with NSBM, so are many non-NSBM bands such as Burzum, Graveland, and Nokturnal Mortum. I've also read many conflicting things about Hate Forest's lyrical themes and sources of inspiration/quotation, but I'd say that the label Osmose Productions clears things up when they say that Hate Forest "were always far from politics," among other things. Nazism and racism in any of its forms are not listed in their lyrical influences either.
It doesn't matter if the band members are self-proclaimed Nazis; if their music doesn't communicate it, they're not NSBM. If there's no discussion on this for a while, I'll probably try to write a section about it. I have no problems with it being mentioned, but I don't think that it should be presented as definite since there's no definitive evidence. The label should be removed from the genre listing at right. NSBM is a lyrical/thematic/musical subculture label, and they are not and do not have that theme, as such they are simply black metal. The only reason there is any opinion like that against the band is because of the band name containing hate, the country of origin, and their obscurity. There is no positive evidence of this relation, simply peoples irrelevant opinions, and it seems unfair to ascribe an ideology to a band that they haven't supported. Even burzum doesn't have this issue on wikipedia, although his ideology has been aligned with ns in the past, don't get me wrong, his band shouldn't be listed as nsbm, but hate forest shouldn't either, and much more so. 107.11.136.170 (talk) 17:34, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
