[edit]

After negative feedback on my first draft (of my first ever article... newbie alert) I've made the following changes:

  • Included text from the two offline sources which explicitly note Henry Norris' principal role in the lighthouse projects
  • Better stated his status an an associate of the other named noted engineers
  • Added two additional lighthouse projects

In looking at references within "Lighthouse management : the report of the Royal Commissioners on Lights, Buoys, and Beacons, 1861, examined and refuted Vol. 2" the listings of Henry Norris under item 9 is a definitive record based upon the archives of Trinity House the British government appointed agency, this reference volume being the complete record of ALL lighthouses under their authority in 1861. Listing here is an absolute record of his role at those lighthouses and listing is at same section/level as the other noted designers/engineers listed to whose pages the article for Henry Norris has been appropriately linked. Unfortunately its not the easiest of tomes to read though it will get you off to sleep at night.

As there is no online copy of "Circular III" which lists the 57 detail questions responded to for each lighthouse by Trinity House in "Lighthouse Managment..." (as seen here its is a fold out page at front of the volume and as such doesn't get scanned) I am trying to obtain access to an original copy of the report. Three places I know of in UK that hold a copy are 'The National Library of Scotland' (the holder of the original copy scanned for the on-line reference version), 'Bodleian Library' of Oxford University and 'The British Library' in London. I have put requests in to the first two of these for access or a copy as may be obtained. This will help make the specific references clearer and most likely provide further use to verify technical, constructional and developmental details of other British lighthouses on Wikipedia.

Further papers relating to Henry Norris' work with Trinity House may be contained in those documents held by The London Metropolitan Archive (LMA), these are another area of research I will be pursuing, though are noted to be far from complete due to many being destroyed in WW2 bombing.
