Blocked from editing

[edit]

I am a Forensic Psychiatrist who was editing the page based on a paper published in "Forensic Science International", authored by one of the original investigators of the case, Virgil L. Vandagriff - but within seconds of my making the additions, it was blocked & reverted to the original. I find this highly interesting - as the reason given was "policy on people who are still living"; to the best of my knowledge, Baumeister is dead.

The addition I was making had to do with Baumeister's sexual orientation and his involvement in dyadic autoerotic asphyxiation - some of which might have resulted in the deaths of his victims. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.190.230.56 (talk) 20:02, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Documentary

[edit]

There is a documentary called The Haunting of Fox Hollow Farm. Bexica (talk) 21:00, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Source of Income

[edit]

Baumeister founded the successful Sav-A-Lot thrift store chain in Indianapolis in 1988. This should be included. =//= Johnny Squeaky 00:56, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Murder tourists

[edit]

I removed the coordinates for Fox Hollow Farm and Pinery Park. The coords for the park are different from the ones on its page, and I assume are supposed to be for the actual spot within the park where Baumeister killed himself. This is therefore Original Research unless you can find a media cite that gives those coords as the spot. Even then, I can't remember a single article on WP where I've seen such information included, not even on the Manson Family, where the locations of some of their hideouts out in the desert, far from civilization, are discussed and could justify the inclusion of the coords. The fact remains though that for 99.99% of readers this info is completely useless, and the other .01%, the murder tourists and amateur paranormal investigators, can find it on their own elsewhere. 23.242.135.196 (talk) 01:34, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected serial killer

[edit]

I have changed the first sentence of the LEDE to indicate that Baumeister was a _suspected_ serial killer. Though there seems to be little doubt about his responsibility for the murders, he was never formally charged or convicted so this change to the page seems appropriate.

This is popping up again with renewed focus on the case. Baumeister was never charged, even in absentia, with the murders he's suspected of committing. He committed suicide before he could be questioned as part of the investigation and never confessed to any of the murders. The cases remain open, and of course he remains a prime suspect in those cases. It's even very likely that he is responsible. However, that doesn't change the fact that he is not legally recognized as the serial killer responsible for those deaths. Sources vary, some refer to him as an alleged serial killer, suspected, presumed, and a serial killer. Even the media cannot come to a consensus on what to do in cases like this. Therefore it only seems appropriate we default to the only source(s) we have; either the courts or the subject himself. Neither of them provide any definitive proof of his guilt. Ergo, he should be labeled a suspected or presumed serial killer until such time as the cases are closed or his guilt is established officially. 10,000 human remains?

[edit]

"More than 10,000 human remains uncovered on suspected serial killer’s farm, officials say". Is this a hallucination? -- GreenC 02:38, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There are some recent (summer 2024) media stories about efforts to identify remains with DNA testing from families with missing persons from the era, and memorial recognition for the victims, e.g. [1] - Serial killer Herbert Baumeister’s victims honored with public funeral. From those articles, the "10,000 human remains" seems to be from dozens, or more individuals, with each bone fragment counted as a separate "human remain." I'll try an edit on this. It is not credible that Baumeister murdered 10,000 individuals and buried them on his estate. 2601:280:4981:BD60:4C5A:9E9A:4943:AD9C (talk) 22:48, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
