Proposals

[edit]

Should proposals be included in this? Simply south 17:28, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article lacks any mention of the ongoing work to restore the Varsity Line and the link now from Marylebone to Oxford via Bicester courtesy of a new chord at Bicester. A serious omission. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.43.59.159 (talk) 20:51, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

larkhall the largest town in scotland without a railway??

[edit]

what about kirkintilloch, much bigger town and no railway unless you are counting lenzie station as kirkintilloch, although lenzie is not kirkintilloch —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.43.237.101 (talk) 10:35, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Covid 19 effects on Britains Railways

[edit]

I added this section because clearly it happened in this timeline and has massively affected the railways. GRALISTAIR (talk) 20:31, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I also added a short Covid 19 paragraph in the introduction GRALISTAIR (talk) 21:02, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline needs near-future projects added

[edit]

History_of_rail_transport_in_Great_Britain_1995_to_date#Timeline_of_improvements has several missing projects from the MetroWest (Bristol) improvements, notably: Portishead Railway reopening to passengers in 2023; new stations along the Henbury line such as Filton North; and Charfield station north of Yate in 2024 as well as longer-term aspirations further afield such as Corsham and Stonehouse Bristol Road that are progressing well. Thanks! 82.108.2.131 (talk) 13:39, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree an update is needed but I suggest we wait until after the May elections as in theory we are election purdah at the moment. There are sure to be other announcements. GRALISTAIR (talk) 14:20, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What does "election purdah" have to do with it? If a project is under way, with funding provided and spades in the ground, and it's all been reported in a WP:RS, we may report it as fact. What we can't do (regardless of whether elections are upcoming or not) is speculate on what might or should happen. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 05:55, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

List of current rolling stock

[edit]

I feel the list of current rolling stock should be removed from this page, even though clearly a lot of work has gone in to it. First, this page summarises a history of rail transport. A list of current rolling stock is not historical, and as a summary page providing a full list of rolling stock seems inconsistent. Secondly, there are already pages on wikipedia that list current and ex rolling stock, linking to these seems more appropiate and avoids duplication. Foxdown (talk) 14:05, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Great idea. JFDI! Per WP:BRD - be bold, if others revert it then we come back here to discuss further. 10mmsocket (talk) 14:29, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to second its removal. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 15:14, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thirded – of little value here and definitely not enough to offset the maintenance burden. XAM2175 (T) 15:17, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for all your helpful and positive responses and changes, and the link to BRD which I had not seen. As this was my first edit on this page, I didn't want to run straight in and remove a large portion of it which had obviously taken time to put together. Foxdown (talk) 14:44, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You have a good instinct for article improvement. Keep on sniffing out the opportunities. 10mmsocket (talk) 15:40, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes indeed! XAM2175 (T) 18:03, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
