Redirect page, disambiguation page or article

[edit]

At first, this page redirected to "hunting", then it redirected to "Hunting and shooting in the United Kingdom#Hunting lodge", which is a section in the article "Hunting and shooting in the United Kingdom". I do not think that the narrow definition of a hunting lodge in the UK merits redirecting "hunting lodge" there, given its very wide usage outside the UK and the extremely different usage in the UK. I mean no offense to those in the UK, but there are hunting lodges around the world, including the U.S, Canada and Russia.

I do not believe that the usage and the section in UK hunting warrants a disambiguation page at "hunting lodge", but a notice on the "hunting" article that "hunting lodge" redirects here and for different meanings go to "hunting lodge (disambiguation)" (not yet created) might be appropriate.

I believe that "hunting lodge" probably has enough meat to get an article of its own someday. Once it does, it could mention the different meaning in the UK and have a link to the section in the UK hunting article.

If you think that the UK meaning deserves a disambiguation page right now, please go for it. I would prefer that you not put the disambiguation page at "hunting lodge", but that you put it at "hunting lodge (disambiguation)" and put a notice on the "hunting" article, as talked about, above. However, you are free to do what you think is best.

If you think that the UK redirect should be put back, instead, you are welcome to do that. However, it would be nice if you explain your reasoning on this talk page before or after you do that.

If you want a reply from me, you will need to leave a message on my talk page rather than just leaving a comment below. Thanks, Kjkolb (talk) 01:52, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that "hunting lodge" merits its own article and that could easily encompass the three links on this dab page. Bermicourt (talk) 18:20, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
