List of Emperors[edit]
Could someone complete the thankless job of actually confirming whether the emperors listed on the page were born in Illyricum or the Balkans in general? I cannot confirm where Hostilian and Valentinian II were born, and I am considering deleting them from the page. PrehistoricWalker (talk) 15:09, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Was there a time before Balkans?[edit]
- the region of Illyricum (the modern Western Balkans)
Puzzled at the word modern – wasn't it always in the western Balkans? – I clicked and learned that "Western Balkans" is a political neologism, which happens to be both obscure and irrelevant here. Any objection to making it "Illyricum (the western Balkans)"? —Tamfang (talk) 04:41, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
or "(in the western Balkans)"? —Tamfang (talk) 19:06, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Tamfang: "the Balkans" is a neologism as well. It didn't exist before the 18th century and only in the 19th century did it come to refer to the core parts of region we today call "the Balkans". --Maleschreiber (talk) 20:37, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
